Senior ..students star in. concert

Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse
The senior grades of East
wawanosh Public School pre-
sented a Spring Concert on
April 19 when the Coultes Sisters
were the first to perform and
sang two selections which were
liSupercalifragilisticexpialadoc-
ious" and "Yall Come".
The Grade 5 entertained with
a play entitled "Arbor Day in
the Woods". The theine of the
play was to protect our forest.
Andrew Koopman of Grade 6
gave his speech entitled "Dr.
Banting". In the school speak-
ing contest he won first of the
grades 5 and 6.
Heather Currie of Grade 8
danced the "Sword Dance".
The Grade 6 Class sang a
song entitled "The Lilac Tree".'
It was first sung in English by
half the students, then in French
by. the other half.
The Debutons which are. Mar-
jorie Nixon of Grade 8, Lori
Thompson and April McBurney
of Grade '7 did a baton number
to the music of "Down By the
Lazy River".
Grade six then did a French
Minuet "The Sound of Seven"
a grade 8 musical group did
three numbers to entertain the
audience. The three numbers
were "Try a Little Kindness",
"Proud Mary" and "Sloop John
B.".
A play entitled "Back to
School" was presented by. the
Grade 7 class.
Marni Walsh, the winner of
the speaking contest gave her
speech "Hair". Grade 6 then
dressed up to do a Hobo Square
dance.
Heather Currie again enter-
tained the audience with a "High-
land Fling".
A musical group of grade
seven "The Shindigs" did three
numbers entitled "May the Circle
Be Unbroken", "Lion Sleeps To-
night" and "Waterloo".
The Grade 8 class then pre-
sented a humorous play entitled
The Truth Telling Machine".
A choir of Grades 5, 6., 7
and 8 sang four songs entitled
"Easter Parade", "April Sho'w-
ers'', '•Were You There" and
"In a Beautiful Garden one
Night".

Junior Auxiliary
The Belgrave Junior Auxil-
iary enrolment service was held
on Sunday in Trinity Anglican
Church, Belgrave.
The call to worship was led
by Audrey Scott followed by the
hymn, "Can a Little Child Like
Me".
Rev. Kenneth Hawthorne of
Wingham Anglican Church con-
ducted the enrolment exercises
and presented a membership
card, hat and tie to the following
girls: Lorie Cameron, Nancy
Moore, Patti Edwards, Julie
Guay, Vicki Lies, Johanna Van
Camp, Anne Procter, absent- -.-
Marion Taylor, Melanie and
Meribeth Scott. Alison Roberts
thanked Rev. Hawthorne for
coming and conducting the
service.
Audrey Scott led in the mem-
ber's prayer, promise and motto.
In his address, Mr. Hawthorne
compared the three Junior Auxil-
iary rules (pray, learn and work)
found in the motto , member's
prayer and promise to a measure
and encouraged the members to
use these three rules in Junior
Auxiliary.
An anthem ',I'm Glad I'm a
Christian" was sung. The scrip-
ture was read by Lisa. Thompson
and Audrey SOott led in the Lord's
, Prayer followed , by the closing
' hymn "What a Friend We Have
in Jesus".

Blyth Dairy 4-H Club met
at the farm of Maurice Hallahan
on. April 24. The executive for
the club is as follows; - Presi-

Joe Phelan explained the good
and poor qualities of a cow.
Members judged a class of
mature Holstein cows, some of
the members giving reasons for
their placings.
The next meeting will be at
the Franken farm on May 22 at
8;30 P.M.

At the Belgrave Weekly
Euchre last Wednesday evening

The Belgrave Women's In-
stitute have completed their can-
vassing for the Cancer Society
and have received $511.40.Mem-

EASY BEEF STEW
2 pounds boneless beef for stew,
cut in 1 to 1 1/2 inch cubes
3 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons lard or drippings
2 cups water
1 _package (1 1/2 ounces) beef
stew seasoning, or seasoning
desired
1 package (32 ounces) frozen
stew vegetables
Flour for gravy
Combine flour and salt and
use to dredge. meat. Brown. in
lard or dripping. Pour off
drippings. Add water and sea-
soning. Cover tightly and cook
slowly 2 hours.
Add vegetables and, continue
cooking 20 to 30 minutes, or
until meat is tender and vege-
tables are done. Thicken cook-
ing liquid with flour for gravy.
6 servings.
