The Solicitor General may, now request involvement of the Armed Forces provided the Federal Government may offer the province assistance beyond the present E.M.O. arrange- ments. Secondly, ther e is a proposal for the .development of a system of loans for the purpose of making cash immediately available to shoreline property owners undertaking protective and repair work. Legislation will be intro- , duced providing for the granting of loans. The initial funding for this programme will amount to 50 million. Thirdly the Government has decided to use the same system as was ,used in the Ontario Sea- sonal Employment Programme in the cutting of • dead elm trees. . Another part of . the' pro- gramme involves the provision of trucks and drivers to munici- palities to assist them- in their efforts to erect protective Works' or' make repairs to existing works. Opposition Leader Robert Nixon asked Premier William Davis to table the log books of Government aircraft, but Mr. Davis refused to do so. Mr. Nixon termed the action unacceptable and irresponsible.' The Provincial Auditor has reported the planes have been used to transport Miniciters, their families and senior• civil servants inside• and outside on-' tario. Mr. Nixon said the refusal indicated githe misuse of planes was flagrant , and would be' embarrassing to' the Government if it became public knowledge." The Province has approxi- mately 40 planes that are public property and the cost of their operation is entirely borne from public ,funds.
