Mrs, Mac Engel
Mrs. Stuart Stevenson was
hostess for the March meeting
of the Evening Group of the
W.M.S. Mrs. Gordon Engel
opened the meeting with the call
to worship and prayer. Mrs.
Stewart Stelss was in charge
of the topic. Scripture reading
was in unison and roll call was
a verse on “spring". Plans
were finalized for a booth at
the Ducharme sale. A' summary
of the Executive meeting held in
Stratford was given •by Mrs.
Engel, who also closed the meet-
ing with prayer.
Lynn' Evans is a patient in
Wingham Hospital.
Carman. Fischer spent the
weekend with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Stanley Fischer.
• Misses Myra McNair, Lon-
don, and Jane Gartley Guelph,
were home for the weekend.

Jane Gartley ,visited in Wood-
stock with Mr. and Mrs. Richard
' Living is a difficult business
for everyone. But especially for
older people in our society.
Bodily defenses tend to break
down in old age and people be-
come vulnerable to a variety of
ills. Active tuberculosis is one
of those ills.
Many older peciple who
develop active TB today were '
infected years ago when the
disease was widespread. But
they showed no noticeable
symptoms. Gradually their
bodies walled off thesTB germs.

Meeting two was held at Mrs.
G. Engel's on March 24.
The roll, call name, one knit-
ted garment in your wardrobe
and tell from what kind of knit
it is made " was.a.nswered.
The leaders discussed the
handout pteets and a discussion
was held about knits flip
, cards. Mrs. Knight disCussed

Meeting three was held at
Mrs: 'D. Knight's on March 31
whensMrs. Knight shoWed tips on
pressing knit fabrics'. • .
Mrs. - Engel . discnssed the
•order•'in which tops and slack's
should be made.
The girls tried on their gar-
ments which were baSted to-
gether.
Lynn Cameron•brought lunch,
white blood cells first encircled
the germs, then special tissues,
and finally calcium. The TB
germs were encased.
When the body's defenses
weaken, however, the barriers
around the germs start to
crumble. Then the 'TB germs
escape and multiply. Fatigue,
weakness, coughing, and weight
loss can be symptorhs of active,
disease. Drug therapycans cure
the disease; but many older
people do not receive proper ,
medical care.
Poor diet and failing general
health are 'some of the cond-
itions that help weaken the body's
defenses. And diet is often sadly
neglected by older people. Their
dietary requirements shift with
age--they needfewer calories but •
just as much protein--anct most
older people eat the' Wrong kinds'
of foods. Fresh meat and veg-
etables•are expensive; and many
older people are living on mar-
ginal budgets. Shopping and
cooking is difficult for them.
Younger relatives and friends can
take an increased interest in
seeing that older people eat better
and be healthier.•
To find out more about ways
to treat TB and stay well, con-
tact your local tuberculosis and
respiratory disease association.
It's a matter of life and breath.
