Some folks make a habit of attend- ing auction sales even though they have no intention of buying, or any real interest in the sales, other than just plain curiosity. Others seem .to regard it as some sort of social event at which to meet people. There are those who simply enjoy listening to the spiel of a good auctioneer. Then there are those who get caught up in the excitement of compe- titive bidding and probably find themselves stuck with things they neither want nor need. How often have you heard people, in their eagerness to out-bid one another, pay, for second-hand articles , higher prices than they could be bought brand new. * * * * * Drug abuse continues to claim lives. A fatal dose took the life of a Kitchener youth last week and left another in critical condition in hospital. How sad that young people risk their lives, and sanity, in taking drugs. It is, however, heartening to hear of the great many young people who are devoting time and effort on behalf of others in a myriad of undertakings. Don't under- estimate our Canadian youth. The vast majority are intelligent, concerned persons with an active Interest in what goes on in their own communities and in the world at large. It could well be -that they' will fashion a better world to live in than their elders have. ,14* * * * * Damages, were estimated at $1,200, On March 19, Sarah M.
