Wawanosh holds speaking contest Correspondent Mrs.L.Stonehouse On Wednesday, January 24, East Wawanosh Public School held its public speaking compe- tition. Speakers in the Junior Division were: Karen Coultes, Joanne Coultes, Andrew Koop- man, Dianne Scott, Cathy Bake- la.ar and Robert Currie. Speakers in the Senior Division were Clifford Branton, Ingrid Jaretyke, Doreen Taylor, Sheila Shobrook, Maui i Walsh. and Gary Hopper. After a great deal of deliver- ation the judges, Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Gross selected Andrew Koopman, 1st; Karen Coultes 2nd, and Cathy Bakelaar 3rd in the Junior Division. In the Senior Division Marni Walsh, was 1st. Clifford Branton 2nd and Doreen Taylor was 3rd. All of the speeches were thoroughly enjoyed by the tea- chers, parents and pupils who attended the assembly. Sunday school annual meeting The annual meeting of Knox United Church Sunday. School was held on Tuesday, January 16 in 'the basement of the church with ,12 present. The meeting opened with prayer offered by Rev. John Rob- erts. Minutes of the last annual meeting were read and approved and the secretary's report was given. Attendance awards go to eighteen. The Junior Girls held the banner for most perfect atten- dance during the year. It was " agreed to carry onthe practice of giving the collection received on the first Sunday of each month to missions. Sunday School Anniversary will be held either the 3rd or 10th of. June with the following committees in charge; Speaker - Mrs. Kenneth Wheeler, George Procter; Decorating - Mrs. Leslie Bolt,/VIrs.Wilfred Walker; Mrs. Bruce Campbell; Music Mrs. William Coultes, Mrs.Geo. Johnston; Corsages - Mrs. Laura Johnston, Mrs. James Coultes. The Superintedent, George Procter, then called on Rev.
