To the Electors
1 have served you fourteen years at your Public
School Board, and three years at your Town Council,
and now I ask your support for the Reeve's Chair
for 1924.
I was the first of the nominees to qualify. My
opponent signed up at the eleventh hour after he made
sure that Mr. Knight
was not in the running.
This accounts for the
contest at this Ione el-
ection.
During my 28 years
residence with you 1
have endeavored to help
in all things for the wel-
fare of our town, and
had nothing to do with
the West Shore Rail-
way, or any other leg-

paying the Oa today.
I intend to run this

will do my best to eon -

To the Ratepayers of the
Town of Goderich
Ladies and Gentlemen: -
At the Nomination Meeting on Monday 1 was
named as a Candidate for the Reeveship for 1924, and
after giving the matter very careful consideration. I
have decided to let my name go before the people for
that position.
For last year's Council I was Chairman of the
Finance Committee and 1 think that I am quite justified
in saying. that the statement we were able to present
in regard to the town's finances, is the best we have
had in years.
We collected for the year, $105,000, about $10,-
4, 000 mor than in 1922.
The Outstanding Loan from the Bank was re-
duced by $5,000 and at the beginning of 1924 we have
a Credit Bank Balance of $1,000 instead of a consider- .
able debit balance at the beginning of the year 1923.
We have built'Victoria Street at a cost of about
$8,000 all paid out of moneys to our credit with the
County- not one cent being taken out of the town's
funds. This is surely better than building a narrow
concrete roadway at a cost of $50.000 or $60,000 as
originally planned. We shall now have funds from
time to time to spend on other streets.
In asking your support at the Polls again on
Monday next, I have only to say that my record is be-
fore you and 1 think that it has always been a clean one.
1 have been a resident of the town all my life
having been a member of the School Board for ten
years and having had six years Municipal experience
both in the lout', Councils and in the County Council.
1 regret very much that the contest is for the
Reeveship only but as my Qualification Paper was put
in early ( Mr. Cutt and jualifying at the same time)
our Town Clerk into me that there was no regal
method of withdrawing or avoiding an election after it
was found that the rest of the Council were elected -by
acclamation.
Consequently the fight is on with my friend.
Mr. Cutt, and I beg, therefore. respectfully to ash for
your vote and influence on Monday next.
Yours truly,
H. J. A. MacEWAN
