Davis Defeats Wallis for the Reeveship,'
and Dr. Clark Comes Beek as De-
puty Reeve it4tk a Large Majority
-Both Industrial Bylaws Carried.
The town on Monday had almost the
aspect of a gala day. The air was;
mild. and there was a bright warm Nun. 1
suggestive o( October rather than of
January. and [resides the townspeople'
who were out to enjoy the sun there
were many from the eoontry doing bus-
iness in town. Motor ears were dash-
ing in all directions conveying voters
to or from the polls, and knots of men
here and there were diecusaing the
candidates or the bylaws. Under such
circumstances the rote polled was a ,
large one, nearly one hundred more
hallota tieing polled tor the mayoralty
than in the'trennone contest of a year
ago.
There was a little excitement In the
morning over a handbill knurl by the
\Western Canada }lour Mills Co.
Town Clerk Knox pointed out to the
lnt'al manager for the Company that
it was agalnet the law to borne any
election "literature" on polling day.
Mr. Fraser clalmetl that his handbill
slid not come under the prohibition, hut
the hill was not given a very extensive
rire•ntation.
The returns were reeelvcrl at the
fawn e•lerk's office at the town hall. The
first returns showed igle,•Davis and
('lark In the lead, and each succeeding
return told the same story. the three
wtuuery lending in every poll with the
exception that Wigle and Dunlop tied
in Na 3. Mayor Wigh` s total ma jnrity
toes 1:.1. A rear ago he won with a
margin of 107 rotes.
