Mr. Campbell gave some reminie-

ing of the railway to Goderich, when
the town had a visit from Lord Elgin.

crick and great quantities of the pro-
duct were shipped by boat to Chicago
and other points. He (the speaker)
was the first individual to forward
salt to Manitoba, and this developed
Into a very large trade. and for some
time he had control of the whole of
the Winnipeg trade In salt. Then
the C.P.R. built a large salt block at
Windsor, and later the Beatty boats
were withdrawn from Goderich. and
these developments nearly killed the
salt business here.
Mr. Campbell also spoke of the later
indn+trial development of tbs. town,
dating from the estahlishfng of the
orran fartnry in Goderich in the 'RO'a.

W. H. Robertson. Rev. Canon' Hill.
