Another Poultryman Heard Fran, A Kippen correspondent writes: A man who is making a success in the poultry business is Mr. Walter McCullie, who, though he keeps only 100 hens, sold dur- ing the past three months eggs to thel value of 5190. When asked how he had secured such good luck, he stated that he depended upon his hens scratching con- tinually. After the hens had gone to roost he scattered about ten quarts of grain, consisting of one-third wheat and the rest oats, among cut straw piled along the front side of the henhouse. Early in the tftormng the hens got to wak and never stopped till the straw was scratched to the back of the house. This warmed them up in the morning. At noon he throws in six to eight mangles for them to pick. These soon disappear, and then towards the close of the afternoon. after throwing back the straw to the front of the room. he gives another feed similar to1 that of the morning. The hens thus go to the roost. warm. About once a week he gives a soft feed in which he mixes wane poultry feed. There is always a hoe with chopped oats in it from which they can feed if they wish. Ilenty of grit and gravel is always within reach. A quantity of cheap _meat scrap is also fed. He harn't had a sick hen all winter. He keeps four rooatent, but these will not be allowed to rim with the hens till all get Out on the grana. As Mr, McCollie hasn't ot, mai McLEAN BROS.
