There was a good attendance. Elsie
Reinhart sleds awarded the medal for
elocution and Jean Chapman the medals
for singing and instrumental music.
There were seventeen contestants, seven
M instrumental music. five in singing and
five in elocution.

At a meeting of the executive commit •
tee of the Board of Trade on Tuesday
evening Mr. B. H. McCreath of Toronto
made a statement regarding, the steel
plant project and Mr. M. G. Gameron,
K. C.. reported upon •the virit of the
harbor deputation to Ottawa. Both
these matters are dealt with elsewhere in
this paper.
The G lderich Township Farmers' Club
reported the names of John McClure and
Isaac Salkeld as the members of the Club
appointed to c• operate with the retail
trade committee of the Board of Trade.
Arrangements were discussed for the
reception of,the members of the Metho
dist Conference which is to meet in
Goderich next week.

Goderich Baptist church on Saturday
and Sunday, the occasion being the
church anniversary. On Saturday even-

To Open Jewellery Store.
Mr. E.C. Robertson intends to open a
jewellery store on East street, just off the
Square. in the stand formerly occupied by
Mrs. Dean's millinery store. Mr. Robert-
son before going overseas as a member of

the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws
upon Rev. D .nald MacGillivray. M. A.,
D. D , of Shanghai. China, who is now in
Canada on furlough. A special convoca-

Deputy Sheriff A. D. Cameron is again
putting in some time at the Sheriff's office
at the court house, after a very serious ill-
ness. On the 17th of January last he was
overcome by coal gas while at his work in
the office and he has not yet fully recov-
ered.
