How Star Men Cover
orld News Events
When the Titanic was sunk, The Toronto Daily Star rushed seven members of ,the staff to New
Yorktto "cover" the story. When Ulster threatened rebellion, three Star men travelled 4,000 miles to
get the facts. When the Halifax explosion occe'rred, a small army of photographers and writers went
to get the story.
The Star policy is to cover bis events ins 's way
tell what was happening every hour, but to explain the signi- •
To cover the war meant not only to PP
ficance of each event. The occas4ion demanded skilled men; correspondents who could get news and
interpret it, and others -war experts -who could piece together the happenings on the battlefields and__
in the capitals and weigh them all for the benefit of the reader.
The Toronto Daily Star las the Latest News

Of such experts, Hilaire Belloc, was the most noted in Great Britain, and Frank H. Simonds iii
America. So because The Toronto Daily Star "covers big events in a big way," it retained these two
foremost reviewers to interpret the strategy and politics of war.
