followed its fortunes for three years and
eight months in the front lines when on

the 110th Battalion (the Canadian Scot-

the Canadian troops overseas since an
early period of the war:
My Dear Friend. -I am writing thew
few Imes to thank you most sincerely for
the pair of socks. which :Wile 10 me in
the Christmas parcel from Knox chtirgh,
and you can be sure were very welcome.
Socks are a very welcome present to us
lads at any time, for we sure go through
them quick. more so this last two month,,
for we have been doing quite a lot of
hard marching. We have marched from
France and all the way through Belgium
and then into Germany. and good socks
saved a lot of erre feet. 1 auras you will
all know by now that we are across the
Rhine. We crossed the Rhine at Cologne
on the 13th of December at 9 a. m.; so we
will he able to return to Canada with the
satisfaction of (breaking the "Watch on
the Rhine."
Cologne is quite a fine city. We get a
pass to it once in a while- The street cars
run from the city right to where we are
stationed. 0o it is very handy. Cologne
has one of the grandest cathedrals in the
world. and it's a sight worth seeing. 1 am
enclosing a postcard view of it in this let-

of twenty minute. oasts and while It was
fast at ranee it showed both teams lack -
The
in practice. The visitors had a little
advantage m weight, but In skating and
stick -handling the local boys were their
superiors. However, the Clinton teens
had a certain semblance of combination
and to that alone can be attributed their
victory.
Thr first period saw the puck almost
imrrlecliately on the Goderich goal and
I►IcUunald had an extremely busy time.
That he allowed only three to get pas -
him speaks well for his ability In protect
i,.g the nets. As the period neared its
dose the play re .dually drifted towards tl E
Clinton goal and just before time waa
called the locals scored.
The second period snowed tie beat ex
hibition of hockey of the entire game,
with the play in and .round centre.
Honors were about even in the class of
play and the twenty minutes closed with
each team earring once.
In the third pertpd the lack of con-
dition of both teams became very appar-
ent and the play lagged. However, both
teams succeeded in scoring, bringing the
entire play to an end with the score 5-3 In
favor of Clinton.
The penalties were light in number and
evenly divided, very litile rough play
ta'<ing place. Referee Sills was particu-
larly prompt in nipping in the bud any-
thing of this nature and his decisions
ttroughout were fair and impartial.
