M announced in the local papers, the Town Council is submitting to the elec-
torate on municipal election day, January 6th, a Bylaw respecting this Company.
Three years ago the Town granted certain concessions to the North Amer -
dean Ckensieal Company, Ltd., which was then operating a salt plant in Goderich, but
the Company kaving•gone into 'liquidation the Goderich Salt Company, Ltd., Wan
torsed to purohase and carry on the salt works and now asks that it be granted the
Same concessions wilich were given the former Company, these concessions being ex-
emption from taxation (except school taxes) on the Company's property here, and
electric power, not to exceed 12 horsepower per month, free of charge. The Bylaw to
be submitted hos met with the ipproval of your Mayor and Council, and also of the

THE ELECTION OF THE
REV. CANON G. C. HILL
Unlike the former Company, which had its head office ih Clinton, the Gode-
rich Salt' Company, Ltd., has adopted s name which directly associates it with the Town
and also has established its head office in Ooderieh and is under an entirely different
management from that of the former Company. In fact, none of the shareholders or
d:rxtors of the old Company are interested in the Goderich Salt Company, Ltd.

The School of Commerce, Clinton. Ont..
will open a branch school in Goderich, in
the rooms over Sharman's Shoe Store, on
January 6th, 1919.
Prospective stridents may make arrange-
ments to enter the classes by writing B. F.

It is to be observed that the Bylaw does not create any new privileges, but
only oontinues to the Ooderieh Sett Co. for the unexpired portion of ten years (that is,
for seven years) the concessions which were given in 1915 to the North American Chem-
ical Co., Ltd.. end a perusal of the Bylaw will show that the interests of the Town are
fully protected. •
Gederich has unlimited salt beds and the by-products have never been ex-
ploited. The -new Company intends to develop the industry here as it has never been
heretofore. We tltit that the Bylaw will have the full approval and support of the
eitizena entitled to vete 'poo it, and that thus an industry will be encouraged which will
bring the Town's name promiaelttly before the public in like manner as the Windsor
Salt Co. gives prominence to the name of that Town.
