Now when Jesus was born in
Bethlehem of Judea, in the
days of Herod the king, behold,
there came wise men from the
east to Jerusalem.
Saying, where is he that is
born King of the Jews? for we
have seen his star in the east,
and are come to worship him.

How still we see thee lie ;
Above thy deep and dreaming

The eiftriastitni Light:
The hopes and feartrof all the years
Are met in thee tonight.
For Christ is born of Mary ;
And gathered all above.
While mortals sleep, the angels keep
Their watch of wonderihg love.
0 morning stars, together
Proclaim the holy birth,
And praises sing to God the King,
And peace to men on earth 1
How silently, how silently,
The wondrous gift is given !
So God irr lens to human hearts
The blessings of His heaven :
No ear may hear His coming,
But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive Him, still
The dear Christ enters in.
0 holy child of Bethlehem,
Descend to us, we pray;
s
t out all sin, and enter in;
Be born in us today.
e hear the heavenly angels
The great glad tidings tell ;
0 come to us, abide with us,
Our Lord Immanuel.

Then Herod, when he had
privily called the wise men, en-,
quired of them diligently what
time the star appeared.
And he sent them to Bethle-
