Hume. If; V. Sheardown, rf. E. R. Watson's Sudden Death. ' The sudden and unexpected death of Mr. E. R. Watson on Monday evening was a great shock, not only to his family but to the whole town. for the deceased was one of our best-known citizens and had a host of friends. Mr. Watson. who for some years had been Government weighmaster at the harbor, about b o'clock Monday evening was seized with heart failure after mounting the stairs to the workhouse of the Goderich elevator, and expired almost instantly. For some time his health had not been robust, there being indications of heart weakness. but he was about town as usual. and tus death was utterly unexpected. The Exhibition will open on Wednes- day evening, when there will be a full program before the grandstaud, with music by the Goderich Orchestra. Let everybody attend the big fair next week at least once. It will be the last and best holiday outing of the year. R. Wigle to g.ve our experience in burning soft coal. tieing raised in a eoft coal district, where the people never thought of usirte other than soft coal, and only within the last few years being where anthracite coal was used, we very naturally drifted into the use of soft coal•last winter, and we found that by leaving the draughts open to the chimney we were able to get very good results in a hot furnace and alio in a range. The draughts should always be open before the lire -door is thrown open for retooling your erre. allowing the smoke to pass off freely, and the fire should only bt very light. Do not at- tempt to 011 furnace or range with soft coal as you would with hard coal, for when it once ignites at wall burn through to the top very quickly. and you will have Ole danger of burning nut your Move end fill- ing it with ash. that you should prevent by keeping the fire lower. You will still receive a great heat without a heavy heel of fire. Your ash pan and grates should he kept well cleaned of ash; ranges and fqr- fleece to be kept cleaned out frequent/0e, 0 at to keep them from filling up with soot, as there will naturally be mere loot from soft coal than there will from hard coal.
