now in khaki. Both were class A men and
becoming tired of waiting to be called
out they went to the city and enlisted.
Robert and Thomas Farrish left last
week for the West, taking with them two
carloads of horses which they bought in
the territory all the way from Goderich
to Walkerton. The Maws. Farrish spent
six weeks visiting friends in this kxal-
ity.
Harty McCharles got a pleasant surprise
recently when he was informed that he
had been elected a member of the Royal
Astronomical Society of Canada. For
some time Mr.McCharles has been taking
a deep interest in astronomical studies,
and having come into contact with some
of the leading students of that science'
they evidently thought his knowledge
of the subject such as to entitle him to a
place in the inner circle. I

eter. who some time ago was awarded the
Military Cross for bravery at the front.

Arthur Hoskins, a former resident of
Exeter, died on the 19th inst. at Brant-
ford, where he Was a foreman in the Verity
plow works. Ile was sixty-three years of
age. The remains were brought to Ex-
eter for burial. Mrs. John McLaughlin
and Mrs. Moses Amy, of town, are sisters
of the deceased.
