"It is l'hristmaa eve, and I want you

the housework."
"A•w, bother!" whined Ned.
"r,enr me. Neddy, that 1s net a nice
spirit to show at Christmas time,"
sighed his mother, for she was much
worried about her little boy's selfish
spirit Ned had a beautiful home and
fond parents, but
ko seemed to love
his own way
above everything
else.
So when final-
ly Ned, sulkily
enough, took a
hatchet and went
toward the

So Ned took a
few turns around the pond, knowing
all the time that he was disebeying him
mother and feeling very unhappy all
the while.
By and by he took off his skates tad
went to the woods to cut seise laurel
branches. It was snowing very hard
now, and be had to wsrk fast. Decanse
by this time It was growing dark in
the woods.
At last his arms were full, and ha

The Conservative party is again at its old trick of trying to set race against race
and creed against creed in Canada. It is a trick that should be overwhelmingly defeated ;
if it succeeds next Monday. it will succeed only by virtue of an arbitrary Franchise Act,
and even such success will be only temporary. To believe otherwise would be to despair
of the future of our country.
