The case of Cook et al. vs. Hamilton.

week. H. Cook, Sons & Co., the plaintiffs
are grain dealers at Hensall, and the de-
fendant, 'James Hamilton. lives at Clin-
ton. The plaintiffs claimed that last
winter the defendant agreed to sell to
them 1.000 bushels of oats at tilc a
bushel and 300 bushels of winter wheat at
i $1.75 a bushel. Plaintiffs delivered to
defendant the bags in which the grain
was to be shipped. but the grain w'a$

The meeting of the G. C. I. Literary
= Society last Thursday night brought out

time. The president, Mr. Ernest Lee,
was in the chair, and a very interesting
program was given, including an instru-
mental duet by Misses Claire Hays and '
Emma Wallace ; a declamation by Mr.
Leighton Walker on "The Poets of Eng-
land ;" a solo by Miss Helen Shaw • a
reading by Miss Dickson. of the teaching
staff ; an instrumental by Miss Margaret
Kelly ; the reading of The Journal by
Miss Mary Baechler. and a chorus by the
Glee Club. An address by Capt. Cyril
Carrie, a G. C. 1. ex -student, who has been
engaged in military Y. M. C. A. work in
France. was heard with much interest
The chief piece of the evening was a mock
trial. one of the students being arraigned
on charges of various misdemeanors, in
chiding winking at a teacher, ringing the
electric hell. and taking another fellow's
girl home from the "Lit." After the case
had been well and truly tried before a
judge and jury. the prisoner was found
guilty
