Dear Mrs. Carrie, -Some days ago I
received your note regarding the parcel

more opportune moment, as 1 doubt if
you could find a man in camp with dry
feet, owing to constant rain during the
last two or three days. 1 gave them to

they were such grand ones that I had not

the town of Goderich interacts to construct
as a local improvement a sewer on Vic-
toria street. between St. David's street
and Britannia road, and intends to spec-
ially assess a part of the cost upon the
land abutting directly, upon the work.
2. The estimated cost of the work is

paid by the corporation. The estimated
special rate per foot frontage is 27.59

longest list of casualties yet reported
among the boys from this town and
vicinity. Evidently our men were in the
recent heavy fighting in Belgium, and the
record of killed and wounded tells of the I
part they played in the victory of the
British arms.

AUBURN MOURNS A HERO'S DEATH.--
Mr. Joseph Carter on Monday eceived
the sad news of the death of his yongest
son, John. who was killed in action in
France. John enlisted with the 181at,
Battalion. After reaching England he
was taken in the first dr7lft to France,and
had been in the trenches since December
last. He was a general favorite and his
death is mourned by many friends. We ,
all sympathize with the pa ents and fam-
ily in the loss of, xir loved one.

Another of the gallant "Hurons," Pte,
Arthur Joseph McCluskey. was, killed in
action October 26th, according to a Mes-
sage received on Sunday. Pte. McCltlg-
key was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs'-.
Joseph McCluskey of Goderich township
and was thirty-one years of age. He
'sailed on the lakes for several seasons be -
f enlisting, a year ago last winter. in
the 181st Battalion. He is survived by
