Animal Statement Sheers Remarkable

The annual statement of the Ster-
ling
tenling Bank for the year ending April
30th, 1917. makes a most creditable I
showing and r/Aecto greet credit on

The profit and loss account shows I
profits for the year after deducting
charges of management, rebate of in-
terest, etc., of $101,270.21, as against
$145,290.86 in the precedingear,
which, with the addition of $52.39
carried forward from 19111, makes a
total of $214,006.49 for distribution.
During the yeer four dividends
amounting to $12,588,89 were W
transfers to contingent account :ane
to $60,000, and taxes, including the
Federal war tax and the Provincial
levy. amounted to $2),594.06. leaving
$00,13'29.04, as against $62„736.29 in the
previous year. The reserve fund is
given as T300,000.
The balance sheet shows a gratify-
ing increase In total assets, which are
given as $13,750,88727, as against 310,-

Sunday school and Bible class meet at

the temperance forces of Huron and
Perth counties, spoke at the Baptist
church. He gave an account of the
work done by the temperance people
and said that Huron county was

W. E: Hasssard, B. A., secretary of the
Canadian Bible Society. In the even-
ing Rev. R. C. McDermid's subject
will be : "Our Pre-eminent Lord.'
Rev. Gordon M. Holmes will occupy
the pulpit in the Baptist church next
Sunday at 11 a. m. and 7 p. in. The
ordinance of the Lord's Supper will be
observed after the morning service.

PATRIOTIC FUND BRANCH.
Ottawa Executive Supports Local Or-
gaaisatioo in its Policy.
The 1111111 docket of business dis-
poesil of Si the meeting of the execu-
tive of the local Patriotic Fund branch
held lest Monday evening contains
several iterate which are of general
public interest. in all about 425 cases
have been dealt with by the branch
here up to April 80, and this week
seven cases have been transferred here
from other branches, and four new
families of recent enlistments have
been added. Since April 1 no fewer
than sixteen casualties from this
county have been reported to the
local office. A list of ten cases in
which pension claims have been dis-

A few weeks ego a protest was sent
to the Ottawa executive, by thirteen
beneficiaries in Goderich, against the
action of the local executive in decid-
ing to retain half the monthly allow-
ance in every case receiving over $10,
during the summer months. The
Ottawa executive forwarded a copy of
this protest, and also a copy of its
reply. an extract from which is as fol-
lpws :
"It will be evident to you, as it is
evident to all of us. that the conclu-
sion of hostilities will inaugurate, ill
all probability, an era of some hard-
ship. When our soldiers return it will
not be easy for all of them to secure
employment at once, and the money
which you are now saving, through
the action of the Huron County Pat-
riotic Fund, will prove a boon and a
blessing in a noose difficult period.
