Pte. Youngson left Goderich in

Battalion. ITheo that Bettalion warn

to the famous 18th Royal Highlanders
of Canada. H. joined this Battalion
• Peperineche, near Ypres. After
several trips into the treadles in that
district he was moved to the Somme,
where he received hie wound in ffrp-
timber. At the time of being wounded
Howard was dewlap( and he says this
fact saved his life. Had he been
'tending at the time Mt would surely
bay. been killed. Hs was moved out
of the trench within two bouts atter
being bit. He considers himself lucky,
inaanauch as be was bit at 2 a. tn..
which meant waiting ooly until day-
break to be moved. He says the
wounded were taken out under the
white Merl and that small -arm Ire
ceased. His foot was so badly mangled
that amputation was necessary. This
took plain at No. 44 clearing nation.
He lay in the next hut to the late
Pte. Arthur McMath, but did not
know of it until the day after Arthur's
death, when he was told by • chaplain
who was writing a letter to Mr.
Youngeos at Goderich and who drew
Howard's attention to the fact that a
Oixlerich boy had died in the next
hut.
From this clearing point Howard
wee sent to Boulogne and then to
Southend. England. He was at this
place five months and was again oper-
ated oo. From there he went to East -
borne and from there was sent to Can
ada. He goes to Toronto bitty 22nd
for further treatment, which means
being fitted with a hot and then he
will return wi',h his discharge. a dis-

we were melting oar way up to esti-

famous Viery Ridge, where the Cana-

will never die, and I sin glad to say
that I was there to do my bit.
It certainly was hot work and our
boys who were up three or tour times

Mrs. Noble, West street, to whom

her younger son, Pte. Bruce Noble, in

on Monday from Lieut. McBurney, of

Vimy Ridge. April lltb. 1917,
Dear hiadana.-1 am extremely
sorry to inform you of the death of
your nth. Bruce. He was killed on
the afternoon of April 5tb between 2
end 8 o'clock. He did not suffer after
beiog hit, sod lived about three min-
utes, being conscious to tbe last. His
comrades tarried his body out and it
was given Christian burial in Mount
Bt. Eby military cemetery and • plain
white cross marks the spot, which is
too far from the Boche to be ever
again disturbed by his shell-ftre.

was cheerful and always willing to
work when required, and his death is
a distinct tom to the company, who
join with me in expressing to you our
