COMMUNITY PLAY DAY.
Program of Athletic Ergots Makes Suc-
cessful Day at Amhara.
lbs annus. Community Play Day of
the Auburn district was held on the
MeitMsd River fiats by the chopping
mill on Thursday, June 19th The
day was an Meal one for an afternoon
of athletic sweats. Old Sol was shaded
lightly sod the atmosphere was in-
.I5or'atiog. True, It looked • little
like rain, but the weather man bad
respect for the Auburn Day and re-
strained his band until the evening,
when it was time to go home.
At the beginning of last March the
day for the celldnn was di•ouraed at
the ex.cuUee ween ieg of the Auburn
Sabhath School Association, sothe rewas
ample time for thought and prepara-
tion. A year ago the four schools
nearest to Auburn participated le
this contrib. It was coni dered ad-
visable this year to try to extend the
hounds. The four schools competing
last veer wars visited again. namely
No. Id. E.el Wawanosh ; No. 3. Col-
borne ; Not 9, Hallett, and No. 5,
Union, Hulett ; also No. 2. West
Wawanosb, and No. 8, Colborn.
The last two did not consider it ad-
efsahle to ester, so the day of events
was shared amongst the salve schools
w • year sone
At an adjourned meeting of the Sat -
bath school executive held on June
bib, committees were elected to ai-
rtime for the day end for the pro-
gram of eyelets. The tlwbeu of the
schools competing were used' a com-
mittee to arrange a program for
the little people who are too small
and young to enter the contest es -i
encs. The oar disapp,inting feature
of the day was that not • sufficient
number oltb. men pretest could be
pressed into service to act as secret-
aries and officials to allow the teachers
to attend to their duties, with the re-
sult that rbc little people had to be
neglected and the lady teachers act e.
secretaries. However, on one suf-
fered materially. since the grounds
committee had arranged swings,
'Mestere," etc.. in Abundance.
The contest was advertised to Login
at 2 p m. Very shortly after that
hour the pros -rare began. under the
able management of Mr. A. McLiren,
the Y. M. O. A. secretary of Guelph,
who helped w valiantly a year ago
ale. The .sounds were all in resdi•
nese, so there was no delay. The
boys began at the spriotiog event,
and es each group completed its work
there fasted on to the nest even'.
The boys' events were arranged ac-
cording to weights : 80 pounds and
under, 81 to 95 pound., 1111 to 119
pound.; 111 to 125 pound., and the
unlimited class. The first group had
to run fifty yard•, the second seventy•
five yard', and all the rest Inn yards,
but each according to the time limit
set in the standard efllcieney test
eerie•. In ell of the events no nos
was competing against anyone Hee,
but all against time 1' 'te or stand•

The second event tor the boys was

The fourth was "pull-cp." and the

lo looking over the events of this
year and a year ago it will be seem that
t litre were differences. Among tam boys
there were two the sane, the sprints
and the "pull-up." It is easy to see
in the record. of the two years that in
these two events there is a marked
improvement over a year ago. Among
the gists there were two remits the
same as a year ago, and particularly
in the walking of the scantling the ad-
vance is very marked. The ordinary
thing this year was lilt) points for eac
contestant. while a year ego only two
or three attained that standard.
At the clow of these events supper
was •rived tight royally by the re-
