Mr. John Story sought election and
promised strict economy.
Mr. W. T. Murney as chairman of
the water and light commission drew
attention to the flourishing condition
of the finances of that boy and also
touched upon the matter of fire pro-
tection for the Baechler factory.
Mr.W. H. Robertson, who was pres-
ent, stated that Mr. Baechler was in no
way responsible for the article that
had appeared in The Signal. but he
asked what position the council would
be in it a fire should occur at the fac-
tory. In reply Mayor Reid claimed
that the building was praetrcally fire-
proof and the hoes recently purchased
placed the factory in as good a posi-
tion as most of the other factories.
The 'nesting then broke up after a
motion of thanks had been extended
to Mr. Hume for his services as chair-
man
turned home for the Yuletide Mr.
Chas. Walter, who has been i11 with

Pte. Chas. VsI.tead, for whom a bril-
liant reception was prepared on Moe -
day everting and whc failed to arrive
on the evening train, camel in on the
midnight train that night, having
been directed at London to go by way
of Stratford. Pte. Felstead, who is an
Englishman by birth, had been living
in (ioderich about two years before the
outbreak of the war and comes from a
militant family. at present having two
brothers and innumerable other rela-
tives wearing the khaki. He enlisted
here shortly- after the call for recruits
was given and with the 1st Battalion
trained at Valeartier, endured the mud
of Salisbury Plains and finally entered
the troches w i tb the British regulars
at Armentieres on February 19th•
Early in Mareb the Canadian brigade
took over the trenches at Ypres as a
unit and it was here on the Vied of
April that the Germans attempted to
break through the ('anadian lines by
the mise of asphyxiating gas. Early in
the morning of that day the order was
given to move forward and it was
about 9 a -m.. while in a chane across
a ploughed nett', that Felstead received
hits (trot wound. a bullet through tbs
left thigh, which put him out of busi-
ness. A. managed to crawl back to •
