Mr. T. O. Aliso went to Peterboro
last Friday on • business trip. He ex-
pects to be awaya week or two.
Mr. David cAllister and sister,
Mies Betsy, of 8t. Augustine, were
the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jae Why-
ard kat Sunday.
Mr and Mrs. Wellington Oliver,
formerly of this elem., and now of
Listowel, are renewing acquaintances
here this week.
Mrs. Bucbanoae and son. Harr
and Mr. and Mrs. Stows, of Ooderich,
were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. T. O.
Allen last Sunday.
Mr. Beatty, formerly of the Sterling
Bank here, made a business call In the
village this week. His many frleods
were pleased to see him.
Mr. sod Mrs. Willis and little daugh-
ter lett Tuesday morning for Toronto,
when they will reside hereafter. We
are informed Mr. Willie Las purchered
a grocery business there. We wish
thew the heat of success.
Mr. J. C. McVeriaoe, manager of the
/Sterling Bank here, left on Tuesday to
spend • three weeks' vecetlon with his
parents at Carleton. Mr. Kerr. from
Goderich, we understand will f111 the
position until his return.

the Tate James Gibson was larged at-
tended at the cemetery here last Sun-
day. The service was conducted by
Rev. H. R. Williams and the Orange
Society ...The home of Mr T. Elliott
was iusde sad last Sunday evening by
the death of their infant cbild�;,who
suffered illness for the past trw weeks.
Burial took place on Monday in Dun-
gannon cemetery.

Tiig Lars Mlle. KENDRICK. - The
funeral of the late Mrs. Kendrick, who
died at Mount Hope, London, on Mon-
day of last week, took place on Thur. -
day from the home of her nephew,
Charles O'Connor. The reneine were
Interred in the Klogsbridge cemetery.
Deceased was well known in this local-
ity. as she lived for several years with
her brother on the farm now occupied
by James Seonit, whence she moved
to
Goderich a ' fewears ago and
thence to London only a few weeks
leefore her decease. She is survived
by two Mothers and two sisters. The
pallbearers were : Florence, Patrick
and Ted McCarthy. John Long Philip
Austin and Michael Dean. The sym-
pathy of the community is extended
to the bereaved one..

auto when witness cams alone.
Capt J. R. (Bert) Varooe, recalled,
said b. left for home a couple of

William J,'.McCabe, caretaker of
No. 1 scboul.house, came across the
fields to the school on the Saturday
morning before the shooting, and the
tracks found there were probably his.
Thetl. Shields, of the Colborne-Ws-
weno.h boundary, said be was on the
road that Dight driving to Mr,Pattoa's,
where be stayed that night. He did
not hear the shots.

An adjournment was made from 6
o'clock to 7 311, when 1 Comas Gundry,
constable, was called. He said be had
been, engorged every daysince the
27th of April In efforts to iscover the
men mentioned by David Bean, but
without result. He had been through
the northern part of the county and
had also enquired south of (ioderich.
Witoeee described two curved tracks
be saw on the road near where the
body was found. The marks were like
those of the beets of a man heing
dragged, the budy not being on the
ground, and tney continued three or

that night from McHerdy's to the
school corner ; the time was 23 min-
utes, 32 seconds. From Smith's Hill to
Varcoe's gate by auto occupied three
minutes : to Varcoe's garage end
through the other motions performed
by Capt. Varcoe up to the time of the
shooting an additional 4 minutes, 313
seconds. Flom the point from which
David Bean aid he saw the car turn
in and Varcoe's corner it took two
minutes to drive ; to Bean's gate, then
walking down the lane and to the
driving shed 0 minutes and 30 seconds.
If David Bean was (h the barn ten
minutes this would be a total of 18
minutes, 30 seconds. This was with
the Beau horse ; other bosses could do
it itt lees time.
To Mr. Cameron witness said be bad

had failed to appear when wanted.
Chief of Pollee Postelethwaite told of
the search he had maple for the men
spoken of by David Wan. all without
result. He bad tested the firing of a
gun on a pi of plank, and to pro-
duce such • wound es was found in
Mr. Bean's body the weapon must
have been diechsrged at a distance of
not more than three free
Both Chief Poetelethwaite and
Thomas Gundry said they had searched
in many placer for the gun, but could
not find it.
Hugh Hill. of tlenmillsr, eon -in-law
of the murdered nun. was the last
witness He could throw no light on
the o. curreoce and had no theory as
to how it Deepened.
Coroner Hunter addressed the jury,
reviewing the evidence, and after some
deliberation the jury rendered the
verdict given above.
