MURDERER OF ROBERT BEAN NOT
YET APPREHENDED.
Crown Appears to Be Pursuing a
Definite Line of Enquiry, and Move
ments of the Fatal Evening Are
Being Closely Scrutinized -After
Sitting Yesterday Inquest Again
Adjourned to May 12th.
The murder of Robert Bean, of Col-
borne township, on the night of April
251b, is still wrapped in mystery.
Inspector Reborn sad the local con-
stables have been busy running down
possible clues, and appear to be work-
ing on a pretty definite line, but they
are not yet reedy to show their hand.
At yesterday's sittltsg ofthe coroner's
jury nothing of a startling nature
develc ped. David Bean, the youngest
son of the family, ser put through •
long and close questioning, and It
came out that he had been twice
wattled by Inspector Reborn that it
was important for him that he should
find the men who be says was his
nom anioo on the trip to Goderich on
the fatal evening. Tu. young man on
Saturday last bad bills printed offer-
ing a reward of 550 for the appear-
ance of this man, and a notice to the
same effect is being published in the
newspapers of the district this week.
Contrary to rumor, the gun with
which the deed was committed has
pot been found.
The inquest was resumed on Mon-
day evening At the township hall,
Carlow, but only • short session was
held. The evidence of Doctors (tal-
low and Emtner,00, who conducted
the posLmortent examination of the
body of the murdered man, was taken,
en adjournment was then made to
Wednesday aftern000.
Dr. &allow read a statement of the
result of Che autopsy, and afterward.
replied to some questioos from Crown
Attorney Seager. Dr. Emmerson

without any definite result. Crown
Attorney Seeger had twenty-three
witnesses on his list, bot only eleven of
these were heard during the after-

The jurors are Sam!. Potter. Robt.
McMillan. John Patton, Chas. Allen,
John Clark, Thos. Mitchell, Jacob
Fisher, Fletcher Gilder* and Thos.
Carroll.
The township hall was packed both
ou Monday and on Wednesday. Old
residents of the township say it is the
dr.t time the old building has ever
been used for such a purpose.
Dr. Hunter ;Avoided as ecrooer.
Crown Attorney Seager conducted the
main enquiry and Mr. M. (3.
Cameron, K 10., appeared in the in-
terests of the family of the late Mr.
Been. Inspector Reborn and High
Constable Whiteside were on hand to
assist the Grown attorney. The wit-
nesses were excluded from the hall,
being detained at the hotel until they
were wanted.
David Bean was the first witness.

The Government believes, past experi-
ences being considered, that tseptew-
bee is its lucky urontb.
Outside the hunch that the month
they came in oil is the month they
ought to try it again, the party has
several other good reasons for favor-
ing September. By that time the war
will be over or the end of it wiU be in
sight and hearts will be caught o the
rend. The settee of relief will be so
great that Canada will return theCo-
servetive Government to power in
mite of its shortcomings. This theory,
which leans heavilyon the reflex ac-
tion of public opinon, is being loudly
proclaimed by the psychologists in the
Cabinet and the party at large. The
Honorable Bob Rogers, who is not •

itician who wants an election when be

chologists who can't recognise the
psychological moment when they see

All sorts of arguments have been
employed to persuade the Minister of
is Works that September Is the
month of destiny, but to all such ar-
uments be has .utatarliall replied :
Why did you make me Minister of
Public Works if you didn't trust toe to
