(Students' Ent.rtairment.
The assembly hall of the Collegiate
Institute was well filled on Frtday
levening on the occasion of the patri-
otic convert arranged by the students.
Mw Ethel Nairn, president of the
G. C. 1. Literary Society, occupied the
chair and opened the entertainment
by tendering the thanks of ,the pupils
to all who had so readily consented to
take part in the prograM of the even-

was a pianoforte duet by Miss Mae
Redmond and Miss Beth Boyd, which
was well rendered and heartily
applauded, Miss Marie Welsh gave •
reeitetioo in the Freneb-Canadian
dialect entitled ''The Canadian Oirl"
and responded to an enthusiastic
encore with another entitled "Billy in
Trouble." Miss Elsie Galt in • man-
dolin solo proved herself mistress of
that delightful instrument. A dec-
Ismation by Miss Jean MacEwan, •
clever young lady of twelve .unemers,
on -The British Navy," was one of
the most interesting numbers on the
program, and was delivered with a
sangfroid and self-possession rarely
found in one so young. She closed
her eulogy of Britain's fighting
e juadrons with • picture of the Kaiser
living on black bread and cold pota-
toes. Miss Adelaide Nairn delighted
the audience with a Scottish song and
was compelled to respond to an encore.
A girls' chorus of fifteen voices sang
the recruiting song "Your King and
Country Want You." in good form.
Rev J. B. Fotheringb•m then gave an
address which was listened to with
rapt attention. The subject was, of
course, the war. and his remark" were
interesting, instructive and inspiring.
A chorus hy twelve toys, "We're
front Canada," was heartily sung.
Miss hose Aitken was very entertain-
ing in her presentation of "Writing •
Speeeh for Peter." a humorous mono-
logue. Misses Mae and Edith Mac -
Manus sang a duet. "Are We Down.

Mr. Bert Cott sang "Take Me Back to
Canada," in goo.) style and was
heartily •pplsuded. Mr. Ernest Lee
give a declamation. "How the Cana-
dian Armada Wes Saved," which was
an interesting but apocryphal story.
The 11 C. I. Joorsal was reed by Mr.
