Lecture by Mr. H. B. Ames. M. P.
Mr. Herbert B. Arse, M.P., hon-
orary secretary of the national Canad-
ian patriotic fund, bee consented to
deliver kis illustrated lecture on the
British navyy in Goderieh on Thursday
January HSLth, for the benefit of the
fond now being raised throughout
Canada for the support of the wives
and dependents of the volunteers
who have enlisted and are shortly to
go to the front. This lecture will be
tibgni8ciently illustrated with stere-
optioon views and the lecturer, who
spent the autumn of 1918 in Britain
and on the Continent studying this
subject, will describe the composition,
organisation and distribution of the
British navy. As the services of the
lectuter are given without charge, the
proceeds. In excess of the exponent of
the lanternist, will go as &subscription
towards the local patriotic fund

at 8.15. Further particulars will be

figured in a happy event at Paris,

took plane at the residence of our
local hardware merchant. Mr. A.
Koenig, Riverview terrace, at 11.30 on
'Thursday, January 14, the contract.

tions bad all been cancelled, and there
were no guests but the immediate
relatives. The bride looked very
charming in her wedding gown of

and carried a bouquet of orchids and

church. After a dainty wedding
luncheon the young couple left on the

cloth with bat to motel and mink
furs. They received several telegrams
of congratulation from friends at a
distance after the ceremony and will
be at borne in the groom's pretty

A very pretty wedding took plate
at high noon on Wednesday, January
20th, at the home of Mr. and Mn. A.
Challenger, '•Lskeview,"Klgin avenue,
when their eldest daughter. Annie
Elisabeth, was united in the holy
hoods of matrimony to Mr. Ephraim
D. Weber, of Edmontsn Alberta. The
ceremony was performed by Hey. W.
K. Heger. pastor of North street
Methodist church. The bride leaning

held on Thursday evening of last
week at Saltfold. The supper was
a distinct compliment to the ability of
the caterers and ample justice was
done to it by the guests. The early
evening was spent in playing cards,
at which Miss Grace Therms woo the
lady's prize and Mr. Robt. Bieset the
gentleman's. Later the floor was
cleared and the young people thor-
oughly enjoyed themselves for several

Canada has some wonderful knitters,
but we claim in Guderich to be right
in line in this good work. From one
home. up to Jan. 13th, the Red Cross
Society has received 12 scarves, 12
belts, 36 helmets and 43"' pain of
wristors (13 inches long), ill perfect
and beautifully knitted. An old lad
of ninety-six years knits splendid
rocks. another lady of ninety-two is
, working on her tenth scarf.
