Friday's Meeting.
The town council met on Friday
evening at the usual boar (late). All
the members were present.
A communication from the Bank of
Montreal was read .bowing a total
overdraft of 4130,0I I. It was moved
by Councillor Wigle, seconded by
Councillor Wilson, Unit this debt be
acknowledged. Carried.
The local relief commit'ee presented
an account of $46.63, which amount
had been expended on the dependants
of soldiers who bad volunteered for
service. On motion of Councillors
McClinton and Proudfoot the account
was ordered to be paid and prevented
to the county council fur repayment.
Requests for donations to the Hos-
pital for Sick Children et Toronto and
the National Sanatorium Association
were sent to the finance committee.
A oommbnication from the pub-
lisher. of Tbe Canadian Municipal
Jourur.l asking for subscriptions was
ordered to be filed.
On motion of Reeve Elliott, sec-
onded by Councillor Wilson, one copy
of The Munieinal World for each of
the council was ordered to be secured.
Councillor McClinton stated the
position of the relief committee with

week by the editor of The Signal, will
be read with great Interest in Gode-
rich, especially by the many friends
of the writer, Mr. Chester Macdon-
ald, who joined the troops for the
front immediately on the outbreak of
the war :

MY DEAR MOTHER, -Just a few
hues to let you know how i am going
on here. I think I told you what we
had lot. Cbristmas dinner in my lade
letter. but in case you should nut get
it 1 will tell you again. We started
Christmas Day with great rejoicings
and at 1 o'clock we were washed
down to • big Y. M. C..6. tent and we
had dinner -and such a dinner it was.
First We bad tutk.y,ham and potatoes
and bread, then cause the Chemins*
pudding and mince pies, and then we
had cigarettes and maple cream to
finish up. Atter dinner we herd gongs
and a gramophone plcyeat all Chaise -
mos tunes and national songs and we
enjoyed ourselves to the fullest ex..t.
i only hope you had a good day at
home. We hada big snow•torut here
on the night or the 113th and it was
veru cold and wet underfoot ; but I
am glad to try that it was fine for
Christmas ai i think it will be fine
for the New 1 •r, anyway 1 hope so.
We expect to he at the bare in the
south of Francs shortly and 1 shall
not be sorry to get out of this mud.
