'The outbreak of the war came on us
as a great surprise and created among
the trading community here somethlog

people went to the stores and shops
and bought up everything in shape of
the necessaries of life that they could

prices of all eatables were advanced
greatly, but the Government acted
promptly and wisely, in such a way
that confidence was restored and
