Polley -Watters
A pretty wedding took place Tues-
day evening, August 18th, at the resi•
dente of the bride's parent. Mr. and
Mrs. John Wetter.. 1308initu street.
London, when their only daughter.
Helen IC , became the bride of Mr.
Hugh H. Polley, of Regina, Saskatch-
ewan, formerly of Godetich. The
house was tastefully decorated
Lb:oughout with a profusion of palms
and ■stere. The ceremony took plate
beneath a bower of palms and fern..
The only attendant we. little Jean
Watters. of Chatham, niece of the
bride, alio led the bridal pair as flower
girl. and looked very petite in a white
embroidery frock and carried a shep-
herd's crook and pink roses. The
bride entered the dining -room leaning
on the arta of her father. She was
beautifully gowned in white chat-
pieuse eouain with seed pearl trim-
mings and pink rose beds, and wore a
veil and Juliet cap with orange blos-
soms, and ctrried a cotebinetion bou-
quet of while roses and iilies-of-tbe-
valley. The wedding ceremony was
solemnised by Itev. Dr. Flanders, of
the First Methodist church. The
Lobengrin wedding march was played
by Miss Kincaid, who was gowned in
pink brocaded satin and shadow lace,
and during the ceremony, Mhz Skin-
ner sang pleasantly, "O Promise Me."
Many handsome gifts .etre received hy
the bride and groom. The groom .
gift to the bride was a ring of dia-
monds end pearls: to the little flower
girl, a triple pearl ring • and to the
pianist and Miss 'Walker and Miss
T honta -, who attended at the table,
silver c.ud eases. A wedding luncheon
was served in a large marquee on tbe
lawn, after which Mr. sed Mn. Polley
left ou the 7.30 train for Buffalo, Tor-
onto.snd other points, the bride trav-
elling in a navy .blue suit and black
and white bat. The gRrdom'e friends
in thelerich join in wishing Mr. and
Mrs. Polley many happy years of wed-
ded life.
Fraser Walton
A pretty wedding took place in St.
Paul's church, Clinton, on Wednes-
day, August lDtb, when Miss Winni•
frt*I, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Itichanl Walton, was united in marri-
age to Mr. Frederick Fraser. of Gode-
trrh. The ceremony was performed
by Rev. ('. R Jeakins, of Brantford.
Mr. and Mrs. Fraser Sill reside in
(loderirh.
OBITUARY
Richard Beoothey
Last Thursday death removed an
aged pioneer of Godericb in the person
of Mr. Rid -herd Bonnamy, who ens wer•
ed the final summons at the ripe age
of ter years. The deceased settled in
Ooderich over & years ago and was
eoeeidervd one of the foremost car -
peelers and glair builders of the dis-
trict for many years. In politics he
was a staunch Reformer and during
the McKinley elections be spent some

Maitland Cemetery to be Cleaned Up
-Maintenance of Families of
Soldiers at the Front to be Ar-
ranged- Extension of Time- for
American Road Machine Co.
All the members were present at the
regular meeting of the towo .couoctl
last Friday evening. His Worship
Mayor Reid presided.
A letter from tbe Bask of biootteeL
requesting the council to notify the
bank in writing as to the additional
amount of credit required for the
balance 'of the year, was read. The
motion was referred to the Finance
committee with power to act.
A letter from the Canada Company.
asking a pa lee of II01M1 for lots TM and
T93 was read and was referred to the
Special committee.
It was moved by Councillor Wigle
seconded by Cooncillor McVliotoo,
that the court of revision a,.eet on
September lith at eight o'clock p.m. a
deal with the engineer • report of
Britannia road sewers from Waterloo
to Cameron street. This was carried.
A letter from the secretary of thel
West Huron Agricultural Society,
asking for :,he usual police protection
during exhibition week and for some
necessary repairs to the buildings cad
fences at the fair grounds, was read
and referred to the Public Works com-
mittee with power to act.
A letter from Mr. James Mitchell
secretary of tbe hospital ship fund,
tequesting that the council make a
donation to the fund, was read and
referred to the Finance committee.
Mr. H. Hays, in a letter stated that
he was prepared to furnish funds to
construct the sidewalk on St. Patrick'•
street, at six per cent per annum.
Mr. A. D. McLean made a similar
proposal in order that a sidewalk
might be constructed nn the south side
of Elgin avenue from South street to
Victoria street. Mrs. McFarlane and
Miss L. Walters also offered to firnisb
funds and take town debentures at
five per cent to construct a sidewalk
on Britannia road from McDonald
street to William •street. These three
communications were referred to the
Public Works committee.
The Finance committee recommend-
ed the payment of a number of ac-
counts.
The Cemetery and Parks committee
reported that Maitland cemetery had
been visite]. It found that a number
of paths were partly covered with
grams and weeds and that a number of
headstones were down. It was rec-
ommended that the sexton be noti-
fied to have all paths and roadways
cleaned and weeded at once: that the
chairmsu of the committee he antbor-
ited to commuuicate with owners of
plots upon which headstones are
down to have them put in proper coo -
1 dition. It ale° was recommended
'that the council give a free plot of 16
I feet frontage to any persons construct-
ing a vault at a cost of at least $600,
the plans of any such vault to meet
with the approval of the council. The
report was adopted.
The Special committee reported that
I in the matter of the protist from the
j Ooderich Planing Mills Company
against the proposed loan to the (lode -
i rich Furniture Company, it was ad-
, vied the complainant had no good
grounds for objecting to the proposed
loan. However, it was rec'immended
that theGuderich Furniture Company
be asked to give an assurance in writ-
ing'that the will not engage in the
planing mill • and building resines.
l'he rnntrnittee had been advised that
the Atuerican Road Machine Company
could be given an extension of title in
which to complete its new factor, by
the passing of a bylaw stipulating that
advantage would not be taken of tbe
time limit contained in the original by-
law until the expiration of another
year. it was recommended that a by-
law be prepared accordingly. The
report was adopted.
It was moved by Oouncillor Wight,
seconded by Councillor Proudfoot,
that the matter of the maintenance of
the families of the soldier. who have
gone to the (resit, be referred to Use
special committee with power to
make the necessary arrangements.
This was a subject for considerable
discussion. It was suggested where 8
was necewsary to pay house tent that
the families be Loused in tbe McIver
cottage which is town property.
Reeve Elliott stated that the cottage
was in • bad state of repair and opined
That whatever was done for these
families should be done right, a sow
g estion to which the whole counl
agreed.
It was moved by Councillor Mott,
seconded by Councillor Monis. that
,be matter of making repairs and
alterations to the Meteor cottage be
left with the Psrblk Works committee
with power to act
A petition for a ewer on Napier
street from Victoria street to Angehms
street. wa..reteered to the clerk for
examination.
The council then adjourned.
