Bud troth is quite serious in the An-
napolis valley. It hes also been re-
ported in the counties of Lampton and
Norfolk in Ontario and in New Bruns-
wick. Cut worms are doing consider-
able injury to young tomato plants in
eastern Ontario.

be seriousy in evidence is the peach
leaf curl. In western Ontario where
the ordered', have been to some extent
neglected, as a result of the winter
killing of the huds;•and where early
spraying has been disregarded, the
disease is very widely spread. It has
also leen reported from the Kootenay
district of British Columbia.

The bloom was particularly heavy and
the Met has been a very good one.
This report holds good throughout the
whole of this district.

fairly general report that Spies will be
short in Brant coupty and that winter
apples in Middlesex have not set well.
Throughout the inland counties of
Ontario theta are quite a number of
orchards which do not receive the best
of rare and which consequently are a

Lord Mersey Losing no Time in Get-
ting to Work
Lord Mersey, who will preside at
the inquiry into the wreck Gf the 'em-
press of Ireland, arrived in Ottawa
on Saturday and was met by Hon.
J. D. Hazen, minister of marine and
fisheries. Premier Horden gave a
dinner on Saturday evening in honor
of Lord Mersey at which a number
of the cabinet ministers were present,
as well as Justice McLeod, one of the
Canadian representatives on the board
of inquiry.
Lord Mersey accompanied by Mr.
Hazen and J.'dge Mcleod, left Sun-
day for Montreal where they w111
board one of the Government steamers
and sail down the St. Lawrence to
the spot where the Empress of Ireland
met her fate. The inquiry is expected
to open on Tt'sday at Quebec.
