The judge's charge, although impar-
tial. was somewhat in the woman's
favor. Mrs. Roemer left Woodstock
for her home lu Drumbo shortly atter
being given her liberty
Although the evidence against her
seemed damning. Mrs. Deemer told
a straightforward story on the witness
stand which convinced the jury of her
innocence. John Mason. the neigh-
bor's farm hand who testified at the
preliminary 'Taal that he saw Mrs.
Beamer empty white powder from a
bottle marked poison into her hus-
band's medicine. repeated his evi-
dence, which was somewhat discount-
ed by further testimony that went to
show Mason had a reputation for un-
truthfulness and had been twice con-
victed of theft in England.
That Beemer died from strychnine
poisoning there can be n8 doubt, as
several expert testified to finding the
drug both .n fisc stomach and liver.
