invitation of the Hamilton Board of

Walter Buchanan. Messrs. Saunders
and Kelly made the trio in autos. The
visitors were treated in most hospit-
able fashion and ate highly delighted
with their trip.
Demonstration of Explosive.
An interesting demonstration was
given cn Monday afternoon at "Hut on
Orchards,' A. Rougvie's fruit farm on
.the hayfield toad, by J. B. Moriarty.
a representative of Canadian Ex-
plesivee, Limited. Montreal. The
object was to demonstrate the uses of
C. X. L. stumping powdere, and a
number of farmers were on hand to
tnakeobservations. A number of tree
stumps were blown up, a particularly
good job being made of a big cedar
.stomp, which was blown to pieces
and the roots torn out of the ground.

'The excursion front Mitchell on
Monday brought not only a crowd of
excursionists to the lakefront but also
a number of enthusiastic spectators for
the lacrosse match between Mitchell
and (ioderich. Great excitement held
the visiting -rooters as they entered the
grounds, feeling confident that" they
might at least play Goderich to a tie.
The first quarter was closely contested,
but to tbe wonder of the visitors goal
after goal came so fast off Hank
Belcher's stick that nothing but a
boarded -up goes', it seemed, would have
stopped him. The Mitchell players

games to decide the tie game between

met yesterday on the local grounds.

The first quarter began with a rush
by Clinton on the Goderich net?, but
the visitors lost themselves so badly
in the Goderich defence that it was not
until Belcher had notched one for the

tanglement. The next goal was scored
by Clinton. On the tbitd set Walter

again passed to Walter, end he with a

score. Within two minutes the home
team got two more. After this the play
was close, Clinton making another

The second quarter was a massacre
of Clinton's chances of winning the
game. The Goderich team notched
eight in a row, every person taking a
band in the scoring. Clinton, how-
ever. got one more before the middle
rest. Half-time score : troderich 12,
Clinton 3.
The third division was close. Gode-
rich took the lead and made the scote
at the third interval 14-4.

Monday evening and they certainly
appeared tc be enjoying themselves,
almost every evening last week the
teach was aglow with large bonfires.
There were more campers here last
week than there have been all sum-
mer. and they took advantage of the
lovely moonlight nights, marshmallow
and corn roasts and potato bakes be-
ing indulged in.
Therewas a larger attendance than
usual at last Sunday evening's open-
air service at the beach. Miss Avon
Payne, one of our summer visitors
from Stratford, gave a"beautiful solo.
"Nearer, Still Nearer," which was
greatly appreciated by all present. Mr.
Gomm also sang in his usual accept-
able manner.
A Rescue at Exeter.
Exeter, Aug. 17. -While swimming
at the dam yesterday afternoon, Clif-
ford Brimacombe, aged thirteen, gbt
beyond his depth and would have been
drowned had it not been for the brav-
ery of a companion named George
Ortwein. When Ortwein arrived
Biimacombe had disappeared. Ort-
wein dived, and, after having been
down for some accolade, succeeded in
locating Brimacombe, and coming to
the top struck out for the bank with
him. His et-rengtb, however, gave out
when be was within a few feet of
safety, and it was all he could do to
hold on toes Hsbing pole Gordon Powell
held out. Both buss were finally
hauled out by Powell and 0oothera
flsbetman. Brimacormhe was soon re-
vived and is none the worse for his
adventure. Ortwein will probab'y
receive a medal for bi- bravery.
Steamer Wexford Aground.
Sault Ste. Marie, Aug. 17. -The Can-
adian steamer Wexford, which went
