Montreal. The object was to demonstrate the uses of C. X. L. stumping powdere, and a number of farmers were on hand to tnakeobservations. Exeter, Aug. 17. -While swimming at the dam yesterday afternoon, Clif- ford Brimacombe, aged thirteen, gbt beyond his depth and would have been drowned had it not been for the brav- ery of a companion named George Ortwein. When Ortwein arrived Biimacombe had disappeared. Ort- wein dived, and, after having been down for some accolade, succeeded in locating Brimacombe, and coming to the top struck out for the bank with him.
