THE TOWN COUNCIL.
Some Important Matters Dealt With at
Regular Meeting.
•
The regular meeting of the town
council was held on Friday evening,
All the members were present except
Deputy Reeve Clark.
An iwpo. taut matter brought before
the council was the protion of
Rice -Knight, Limited. of Toronto, to
locate their busine.s in (ioderich. The
matter was referred to the special
committee.
The Mayor proposed the formation
of an industrial committee, to be com-
posed of men who take an active in-
terest in the advancement ache town,
for the purpose of securing new indus-
tries for the town. A certain rani' of
money should be set apart, he
thought. for the use of this commit-
tee. The special committee was asked
to take the proposal into considera-
tion.
The council passed a resolution ask-
ing the Dominion Government to
build an addition of at last 8011 feet to
the southwest breakwater. It will be
represented to the Government that
this addition is neceerary for the prop-
er
protection of shipping in the har-
bor.
A letter from Mr. Middlemist was
read, advising immediate application
for the renewal of the charter of the
Ontario' West Shore Railway. Mr.
Proudfoot will be asked to attend to
the matter before the Legislature. .
The following letter from the Mayor

s The annual meeting of the public
library board was held on Saturday
evening, February 8th, with Mr. Galt
in the chair. Geo. Porter's account of
$3.911 for Hooks and 1164.35 balance dun
on magazines and newspapers for 1913
was ordered paid. The librarian re-
ported receipts of 86.81 during Jaeu
ary and an issue of 1,50.3 boots and
magazines. The annual tee of $2.00
was ordered to he sent to tbe secretary
of the Ontario Library Assocl*t ion and
Dr. Strang and Mr. Long were ap-
pointe.1 to attend the Easter meeting
of the Aaaociatipn in Toronto as rep
reseotativee of this lased. The officer
for the current year are : John Gale
