Rural Mail Delivery.
Plana for a commencement of rural
mail delivery in this rection are under
the cosaiderstioo of the Postal Depart-
ment. Mr. OUerhead, an offIcial of the
Department, was reoenUy In Goderich,
and a plan to oover Ooderich township
arse worked out. One proposed route
is from Goderich along the BayfelU
road to the Out lion, east abog the
Cut line one block and hack to Gode-
rich by the 4th concession. A second
route from Goderich will similarly
circle the block between the Huh and
rlth oonoeesion roads, taking In a
portion of the Huron road. Two
routes from Bayfield will accommodate
similar sections of the township south
of the Out line. Three router out of
Clinton are proposed : One along the
10th 000ceasion to the Maitland con-
cession ; along the Maitland to
Holweevill.. thence along the Huron
road W Clinton. Another along the
Huron road to a point near Taylor's
Corners and t hence through the central
part of the township and back to
Clinton. The third route to serve the
Bayfield conceasion as tar ma (tile's
school and the easterly part of the
Telephone road.

The death of Mrs. Tbomes Videan,
which occurred at the family residence.

Mrs. Videan had been ill for a year
and had suffered greatly, yet with
uocompleioing patience and cheerful-
ness. At the age of sixteen years she
came to Canada, with her parents from
Newton Stewart. Ireland, and after
living a few years at Clinton the came
to (*nderich, which had ever since
been her home. She was married to
her now bereft buatand forty -rix
fi.ars ago, and of their family of seven
ve survive Misses Blanche and
Pearl and Charles, at home : Harry
of town. and Wilaero, of Detroit. The
funeral took place on Wednesday
at tet noon. thee service being conducted
by Rev. J. B Pother'ingbam, rector of
St. (shote'.. The pall hearers were J.
W. Smith. R. J. Megaw. D. J. Curry,
James Logan. 0, Sturdy and John
Story. Among the beautiful Mowers
on the casket were tributes from
Calgary. Chimer,. Detroit, London
and Niagara. Geo. Videan. Mr. and
Mn. Wilson Videad' and sou, of
Detroit ; Mrs. John McSween, of
Niagara. and Mrs. Wise, of Clinton.
were here for the funeral. Especially
among the older residents of the town.
the death of Mrs. Videan is mourned
as the removal of one+ whom they had
known and esteemed for many years.

Literary Society for the current , term
was held in the a'eembly hall of the
CoUegiate on November 15th. The
opening selection semen instrumental
solo by Miss Ida ('urrie, given in her
usual excellent style. The secretary.
Mies Mary Tom, read the honor rail
and Leonard Macklin gave a very in-
structive declamation on The County
of Huron.-' A hum )nous reading. by
Mise Ruth Hamilton. was followed by
two excellent selections by the Glee
Club. The event of the evening was
a debate on the subject, "Resolved,
tbat foreign (including colored) immi-
gratioo is detrimental to the progress
of Canada Tbe affirmative was up-
held by Cockburn Hays and Miss
Evelyn Pollock. and the negative by
James McClinton and Miss Mary Tom.
The four speakers gave excellent
arguments. and the judged.. Mrs.
Macklin. Rev. J. B. Fotberingham
and Mime Mabel Strang. bad difficulty
in deciding which side should ivin.
The decision, which was in favor of
the negative, was anoouboed by Rev.
Mr. Fotberingghsm. A violin solo by
Miss Iris Warnock was warmly
applauded, sod a recitation by Miss
M. Welsh was enjjord by all. Mr.
Cook and Miss B. Pndbam contributed
to the enjoyment of the evening by
a vocal duet. and an instrumental duet
by Miss B. Pridhaw and Mies H. Clark
was greatly appreciated. The singing
of "Uod Save the King" brought the
meeting to a close.

Mrs. W. F. Clark on Saturday re-
ceived the sad and unexpected news
of the death of ber brother Joseph
McDonald, at Grande Mstie, Mino.,
and left immediately for that place.
The deceased was a former resident of
Dunlop.
,The inquest into the death of Clar-
ence M. Foley. second cook of the
steamer Fleetwood, whose body wa+
found on the lake shore above pintail
on the 0th inst.. was concluded ou
Saturday at Port Albert. The jury's
decision was in accordsoce with the
face as already published in The Sig-
nal.
An interesting sdvertivemeot of the
Goderich Grain & Feed Co. appears in
this issue of The Signal. A. J. Cooper,
manager of the Company, is assisted
by R. J. Rutledge, late of Auburn.

and ap elevator at the G. T. R. tracks,
the Company in in a good position to
handle both retail and wholesale
business.
On Sunday afternoon. while on his
way to Sabbath school, Mr. James
Buchanan, sr., was taken with a para-
lytic stroke. He was removed to his
home, wbere he is still in a serious
condition. The news of his seizure
was beard with regret and sympathy,
and it is boped that so useful s citizen
may be spared far many years yet of
comparative health and strength.
The authorities are looking for Sid-
ney J. Cope, young man who was
working for Wilfrid Farrish, of Ash -
field, and who oo the Sth inst. left
with • horse end rig belonging to Mr.
,Farrish to go to Luckoow and did not
come back. The horse has since been
discovered at Owen Sound, having
been traded for another. Cope was a
Barnardo Home boy.
R. R. Sloan, of Porter's Hill. was
elected a director of the Ontario Fruit -
growers' Association at the annual
meeting in Toronto last. week. "Bob"
is one of the big guns in the fruit -
growing industry of this Province and
brings a great fund of entbusiasm to
hear in support of any movement for
the furtherance of the fruit-growlog
interests. Thos. Cottle. of Clinton. is
a director of the Provincial Horticul-
tural Society for the coming year.
Forbes—Proudfoot.
At 0•.90 o'clock on Wednesday morn-
ing, at Knox church. an event occurred
by which Goderich loses a bright and
popular young lady. who is to grace
• Western home. The event was the
wedding of Jennie Darliogtoo, second
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Proud -
foot. to Wesley E. Forbes, youngest
son of Mrs. James Forbes, of Seeks-
toon, :Usk. A few immediate rela-
tives were present to witoess the cere-
mony, and the cburcb was prettily
decorated for the occasion. Rev. Geo.
IL Row, pastor of Knoz church, emei-
rated, assisted by Rev- J. B. Cropper.
of Demerara, Soulh America Mr. J.
B. Hunter presided at the organ. The
bride was gives away by ber father,
but otherwise was unattended. She
wore ber travelling snit, a tailored
Norfolk costume of bows sybileoe.

a bwndsorse sat of mink tars. the gift
of the groom. Rbe carried e beauti-

people of all the churches in town will
take place in Knox church Sunday
afternoon at 4.13 o'clock. This will be
• great occasion and it will he most
inspiring to see how strong the united
body of young people in our town is.

of the rally is to hear Mr. Karl Leh-
mann, the famous international Neat ,
secretary of Christian Endeavor. No

A most interesting adarees was

morning last by Rev. J. B. Cropper,
of British Guiana, who. as Mated last
week, is visiting his termer college- '
mate, Rev. Geo. K. Rosea. Mr. Cropper
gave a lucia account of the missionary
work in which he is engaged in the
South American country. and spoke
of the people among whom be
labors in a manner that compelled in-
terest and sympathy. The address I
was so instructive that we sbonld like
to report it at length, but the limit-
ations of space this week forbid. It
is to be hoped that the people of I
Goderich will bave further oppor-
tunitfes of hearing Mr. Cropper dur-
ing bis furlough.
