Another along the Huron road to a point near Taylor's Corners and t hence through the central part of the township and back to Clinton. The event of the evening was a debate on the subject, "Resolved, tbat foreign (including colored) immi- gratioo is detrimental to the progress of Canada Tbe affirmative was up- held by Cockburn Hays and Miss Evelyn Pollock. and the negative by James McClinton and Miss Mary Tom. The four speakers gave excellent arguments. and the judged.. Mrs. Macklin. Rev. J. B. Fotberingham and Mime Mabel Strang. bad difficulty in deciding which side should ivin. The decision, which was in favor of the negative, was anoouboed by Rev. Mr. Fotberingghsm. A violin solo by Miss Iris Warnock was warmly applauded, sod a recitation by Miss M. Welsh was enjjord by all. Mr. Cook and Miss B. Pndbam contributed to the enjoyment of the evening by a vocal duet. and an instrumental duet by Miss B. Pridhaw and Mies H. Clark was greatly appreciated. Clark on Saturday re- ceived the sad and unexpected news of the death of ber brother Joseph McDonald, at Grande Mstie, Mino., and left immediately for that place. The deceased was a former resident of Dunlop. ,The inquest into the death of Clar- ence M. Foley. second cook of the steamer Fleetwood, whose body wa+ found on the lake shore above pintail on the 0th inst.. was concluded ou Saturday at Port Albert. Cooper, manager of the Company, is assisted by R. J. Rutledge, late of Auburn. With a warehouse oc Hamilton street and ap elevator at the G. T. R. tracks, the Company in in a good position to handle both retail and wholesale business. On Sunday afternoon. while on his way to Sabbath school, Mr. James Buchanan, sr., was taken with a para- lytic stroke. He was removed to his home, wbere he is still in a serious condition. The news of his seizure was beard with regret and sympathy, and it is boped that so useful s citizen may be spared far many years yet of comparative health and strength. The authorities are looking for Sid- ney J. Cope, young man who was working for Wilfrid Farrish, of Ash - field, and who oo the Sth inst. left with • horse end rig belonging to Mr. ,Farrish to go to Luckoow and did not come back. The horse has since been discovered at Owen Sound, having been traded for another. Cope was a Barnardo Home boy. R. R. Sloan, of Porter's Hill. was elected a director of the Ontario Fruit - growers' Association at the annual meeting in Toronto last. week. The event was the wedding of Jennie Darliogtoo, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Proud - foot. to Wesley E. Forbes, youngest son of Mrs. James Forbes, of Seeks- toon, :Usk. A few immediate rela- tives were present to witoess the cere- mony, and the cburcb was prettily decorated for the occasion. Rev. Geo. IL Row, pastor of Knoz church, emei- rated, assisted by Rev- J. Cropper, of British Guiana, who. as Mated last week, is visiting his termer college- ' mate, Rev. Geo. K. Rosea. Mr. Cropper gave a lucia account of the missionary work in which he is engaged in the South American country. and spoke of the people among whom be labors in a manner that compelled in- terest and sympathy. The address I was so instructive that we sbonld like to report it at length, but the limit- ations of space this week forbid.
