characteristic address. He spoke of
his pleuure in coming hack to •
congregation with wbow he bad spent
the best ten years of hie I,te and
who still held the dearest place in
his heart. He recalled the patieoce,
kindoe.ae and forbearance with which
the congregation bad always cleated
him from the day be first .'wine to
them a fresh, inexperienced young man
to the time uf his departure. He spoke
of the noble wen who lad treen
identified with the congregation and
of the good wen who had gone forth
from the congregation to carry on the
work of the church ih other places,
It was nut a good thing, however,
tot a congregation "to have its future
behind it." With the splendid material
now at hand. even better things should
be achieved in , ire future than in the
past, and the speaker made a fervent
appeal to the young men ant women
of the conga-_dation to take their
places in the Wo. k, 1.0 seek the great
things of life ar.d with self-sacrifice
atrive to make their lives nobly useful.
Rev. Jas. %%'ilson amid thxt, although
he was treading somewhat upon his
native heath, it made trim sorry, more
tarry year by year as he visited St.-
Helens,
t.Helens, to see how many were gone,
bow few were left uf the days that
were. The speaker's recollections of
the church went back to the, paetorate
of the late Rev. Mr. Leask, to whore
be paid a warm ti 'but*. He spoke of
the rougher. more stre0uons conditions
of those days, and said he thought the
young people of today did not recognize
the great opportunities they have.
He hoped like Mr. Whaley the con-
gregation was going on to greater
and better things, with a recognition
of the need of using new methods to
meet the changing conditions of
the passing years. He knew of
no sphere in wbicb a greater influence
could be exerted 110 moulding the
future of our couutry tban the minim., y

envied the minister of the rongre-

Rev. Mr. Craw spoke of hie short
but happy pastorate at St. Helena and
of the kindness shown to biro and his
wife by the people of St. Helens while
they were with them. If he bad not
at the time let them know of bis ap-
preciation of their kindness., it was
perhaps because he was Scotch, and
tt was said that • Scotsman never tells
his wife he lours her until he is sure
she is going to die. He closed with
words of encouu agement and hope for
the congregation.
The musical part of the evening's
program was given in excellent style

was moved by J. Rutherford and W.

glad to have amongst them at this
time Mies Leask, daughter of the
former revered pastor of the church.
