He then pro- ceeded to cite some facts showing the importance of Hamilton and conclude d by inviting the Mayor and council and citizens of Goderich (including the ladies( to visit Hamilton, where they would be given a good time in return for the courtesies which had been ex- tended to the men of Hamilton by the Goderieh people on this occasion. Alex. Saunders was called uponnta propose the toast of "Hamilton' and did so in a neat speech. He congrat- ulated Hamilton on securing the new C. P. R. connection so long desired, and hoped that one result would be that more Hamilton people would flod it convenient to come to Ooderich to spend the summer season. He would like the visitors to see Goderich in daylight (alluding Collie circumstance of their train having arrived atter snit - down) and they would see a town of which its citizens were justly proud. He drew the attention of the visitors to (odericis a excellent shipping facili- ties and bespoke co-operation between the two towns in encouraging busi- ness. President Frost of the Hamilton Beard of Trade responded. He dwelt upon Hamilton's large manufacturing interests, making epeeist reference to live industries of the city which pay each a million dollars annually in wages. He and the others from Hamilton had made this trip to be- come acquainted with the people of Goderich and the places intervening and to make a closer bond of friend- ship with the desire of developing the interests of all. A., of Eguiondville, which occurred on Tuesday of last week. removed one of the well known micisters of the Pres- bytery of Huron. The following ref- erence to the lamented event is from The Seaforth (expositor : it was with feelings of deep and sincere sorrow that the people of this community learned on Tuesday night and Wednesday of the death of Rev. Neil Shaw, the beloved pastor of Eg- moodville Presbyterian church. Mr. Shaw passed away a little atter seven o'clock Tuesday night. Although this r;sult was not unexpected. the an. nouucement of the death was a severe shock to many. As has already been announced in these columns, Mr. Shaw took sick while visiting a friend in 8t. Catharines some weeks •go. His case was [ben considered critical. But he rallied sufficiently to permit of his coming home and it was then hoped by his tt ienda that the change for the Netter would be permanent. This, however. was not to be. On Sunday last he was subjected to an op- eration which. it wart hoped, would afford relief This, however, revealed a condition of affairs which rendered recovery impossible and the end came about as exp. Heel. Mr. Shaw had been suffering rr nn !his ailment for some years and hood been prostrated by it on several occa-ions. Mr, Straw was just in the prim.- of life, being only a few months tinder fifty-five yea.a of age. He was a ',wive of Essex county and was edncaled at Toronto Univer sit y and Kao: College. Before coming to Egmondville he was pastor at Tilbury for four pats.
