close of the formal proceedings Mr.
and Mrs. Wood were introduced to
the ssembers of the congregation,
after which a sumptuous repay was
served in the basement.
Their Diamond Jubilee.
Mr. and Mrs.. John Porterfield, of
Fordwicb, celebrated tbeir diamond
wedding on Saturday. April 20th, when
they were surrounried by a num her of
their children and a few intimate
friends. Mr. and Mrs. Porterfield
were monied in Toronto sixty years
ago, driving sixty miles in a lumber
wagon to have the ceremony per=
formed. They resided at Sesrboro'
for a time and then Droved to Renick
wbere they farmed until six years ago,
whim they moved to Gerrie and later
to Fordwich, which is now their boar.
They were Messed with a favffy of
thirteen children, all of whom are
living. The family took advantage
of the occasion to present their father
with a puree of gold and their mother
with a handsome diamond brooch.
Both of the parents are in the enjoy-
ment of good health.
Accidental Shooting at Wtogkam.
A young man, named John Doug -
1a, was aceideutally shot in the leg at
Wingham last Sunday and severely
injured. He and a man named George
Harrison had taken a walk ,,tip the
-irerduring the afternoon. The bitter
had taken a revolver, which Dougless
had examined and pronounced "no
good." Douglass lay down un the
lgrase, and while Harriein was exam-
ining the revolver it was accidentally
discharged The bullet grazed the
end of Herri,on's thump, pawed
through his troupe,. leg, .without
wounling the leg, and, striking Deug-
lase in the upper part of the leg, passed
througb the tnee-Aotat and lodged in
the thigh bone. He was at once taken
to the Aloes oI Drs. Kennedy and
Calder, where au X-ray examination
was made. The bullet was located,
and Douglass was then removed to
the h spitrl. where Dr. Kennedy op-
erated, and removed it. Ile is ex-
pected to recover if ho complications
set ie.
