In hia opin- ion the Borden Government was mak- ing a great Mistake in not facing the Pursue boldly and in dillydallying with the q•teation. Sir Wilfrid Laurier, whether in Massey Hall, Toronto, on tbe parish platfcrms in Quebec, or in the House of Commons, bad taken the ground of Provincial rights and no coercion for Manitoba. While Mr. Monk had practically approved the Laurier settlement of the school queetinn in 1807. Mr. Pelletier bad declared it was a miserable cett}ement. For fifteen years in the Province of Quebec the men sitting on the coalition Govern- ment benches bad kept up a crnt.in- uoue agitation against Laurier and his followers on the ground of alleged trsacbeiy to Roman Catholics. The Postmaster -General had been one of those most assiduous in his ap- peals to the prejudices of Catholics against Laurier, and for years Liberal* in Quebec bad been crucified became they supported the agreement of 1887.
