ENTERTAtNsrgtsr. --The reputation
of the good people of Zion church in
the way of entertaining was well sus-
tained last evening, when in spite of
stormy weather, the church was well
filled with an audience that enjoyed
fleet a splendid supper end afterwards
a fine program of music, elocution
and speeches. The Blackstone orches-
tra, of Goderich, rendered a number
of selections in first-class style : elocu-
tionary numbers were given by Miss
Gladys Levy, vocal solos by Messrs.
John Millian, Davidson nod Harold
Blackstone; a duet by Reg. Black-
stone and Will Chs- man, and
speeches by Rev. W. Cot say, of Nile,
Mr. Davidson and the pastor, Rev. A.
W. Brown. Everything passed off
pleasantly, and those who helped in
making the evening so successful ate
to be txongra elated upon the result of
their efforts. The proceeds amounted
to nearly $50.

The 'remains of Alex. Phillips, of Lis-
towel, a further resident of this sec-
tion, were interred in Dungannon
cemetery on Friday. December 'llod,
the funeral taking place from the sta-
tion at Lucknow,
PnlspxrArtoN,-On Tuesday even-
ing. December 19th, the people of this
community representing Blake's Sun-
day school gathered at the home of
Miss Mary Hall and as a mark of ap-
preciation of her services as teacher in
the Sunday school presented a chair,
Bible and Book of Praise, accompan-
ied by an address conveying expres-
sions of high regard and goad wishes.
Miss Hall replied with a few well-
chosen words of thanks in acknowl-
edgment. The evening was passed
very pleasantly with an impromptu
program and games.
The Christmas entertainment in the
Agricultural Hall on Christmas night.
under the auspices of the Methodist
church, was a great sueOles. The
proceeds realised were nearly $50.
One of J. R. McNab-s horses had •
leg broken yesterday at Port Albert,
the other horse kicking it. The
animal was brought to Dungannon
and J. H. Medd, V.S., is working on
it with the hope of saving it.
Mr. and Mrs. E. Whittaker have
gone to Vancouver, B.C., to take up
their residence there. Mrs. Whittaker
was formerly Miss Donna Bice. and
the good wishes of her many friends in
Dungannon follow her.

our citizens is more than ordinarily
pleased this week. Dr. Bice is the
man, and the cause is the receipt of a
Roes rifle as a gift from the Hon. Col.
Sam. Hughes. the Minister of Militia.
The Doctor and the Colonel are old
schoolmates, and it seems that a few
years ago the Doctor sent • message
of congratulation to Col. Hughes for
some fine shooting the latter bad done

bered by his old school comrade that

ANNUAL MIETINO of RIFLE OLUB.-
The annual meedeg of the Lochalsh
Rifle Club was held at Lochaleb on
Monday evening of last week, at
welch business, chiefly of a routine
nature, was tntweeted. All the offi-
cers were re-elected with the excep-
tion of the secretary, P. D. McLennan,
who expressed his desire of resigoing
his office. Edgar Robb was appointed
secretary in his stead. It was unan-
imously decided to refund $1.26 to R.
A. Grant, which had been kindly
given by him to the club in connection
with their last year's social gathering.

A last Thursday night was a decided
success. The school was crowded
with an appreciative audisoee, who
enjoyed to the full every number of
a most interesting and extensive
program supplied entirely by local
talent. The dialogues were well put
on and the "Busy Bassen" rivalled
(lily Bros. Minstrels in brilliance of
costume end variety of program.

The Act of 1910, Chapter 9p section
three, subsection 4, amended the Act
of 1908 as follows :
" 141 The initiating municipality may
"make agreements with any bank or
"with any person or body corporate
"for temporary advances and loans for
"meeting the cost of the work until
"the completion thereof, and may then
"pass the necessary bylaw autism izing
"the issue of debeutures nut of the
"pa oceete of which the amount of the
"temporary loans and advances shall
-be paid as a first charge, but the by-
law for the issue of dntuies, shall
"be passed not later than two years
"after the initiating municipality shell
"have enacted the bylaw for the estab-
"lish::tent of the local telephone eye -
"tem. and the debentures under said
"bylaw shall be issued within twelve
"months after the passing of such by -
"law."
Having passed the bylaw to raise
the money it was, under the above sec-
tion, the duty of the council during
1911 to issue debentures, sell same and
pay off the money borrowed on the
credit of the township for the building
of said system. The council should
also have shown in their annual state-
ment what money had been borrowed
on the credit of the corporation Tho
rat •payers are entitled to this inform-
ation, and according to law should
have been furnished with it.
