These maps will be of inestimable value to the teaching stat? in explaining to their classes topo- graphical features, climatic oondition, of various countries, such as the muses of rainfall, and other things pertaining to a more intelligent study of geo- graphy. Before the Railway Commission. The question of interswitehing be- tween the O. T. R. and O. P. R. was before the Dominion Board of Rail- way Commissioners at Toronto on Thursday last. and the board decided to send its own engineer here to look over the ground. consult the local pie, and advise as to what should done. C. (:arrow, town solicitor, was in attendance at the sitting of the board, and. in addition to counsel for the two railways, W. L. Horton. R F. Mandel, W. Proudtoot, K. 0., V. M. Roberts and Ohne. A. McGaw were present in behalf of various in- terests. The Census Figures for Goderich. The Dominion census gives Goderich a population of 4,531 This is en in- crease of 354 since 1901, when the cen- sus figures for this town were 4,158. The assessor's figures this year, how- ever, were considerably above those of the census -takers, the municipal officer reporting the population as 4.796. Assessor Campbell thinks there may have been more people in town when be made his rounds than when the census was taken, as the hotels were pretty well tilled then with men who had come to fit out the boats and do other work. The sailors and fisher- men, too, would all he at home then. Mr. Campbell agreed that, at least so far as this part of the bbuutry is con- cerned, the better time to take the census would be during the winter months, when nearly everybody is at home. However, he is inclined to think that the census -takers should have found a hundred or two more people in town than they did. A Prosperous concern. The American Road Machine Co.'s factory was closed down last week for stock -taking. Work was commenced again last Monday and the number of hours of work for each week has been increased. instead of closing at I o'clock on Saturday the men will work until 5 c'clock hereafter. The company is doing x very flourishing hint nem, having sufficient orders booked to keep the plant running at full blast for three months. In addi- tion to this they put preparing a large quantity of s so as to beready to cope with the spring rush of orders for their goods. McDonald -Cole. A pretty wedding was solemnized in Goderich township on Wednesday .'this week, when Miss Violet Cole. daughter of Thos. Henry Cole, be- came the bride of Allan McDonald, of Goderich. Rev. Geo. E. Rose per- formed the ceremony in the presence of a .mall party of immediate tela- tire4 and friends. When the nuptial knot was tied, the company pat down to a sumptuous wedding breakfast. after which the bridal party drove to ( Tinton, where the happy couple took the train t .r a short honeymoon trip to Detroit. Mr. and Mrs. McDonald will make their home in Goderich. where the groom holds the position of engineer in the Goderich planing mills. Their many friends in town and vicinity extend congratulations.
