McGillkuddy v. Oliver.
Ilan. McGillicuddy, formerly mo-
prietor of this paper, sod later mating -
Ing editor of The Calgary Daily News,
has sprung into the limelight at Ot-
taws. A few day's ago The Toronto
Telegram published certain statement.
intended to reflect upon one of the
\Vestey n members of the Dominion
4iovetnment. It has since developed
that this Minister is Hon. Fiauk
Oliver. Minister of the interior. and
The Telegram's informant is Mr. Mc-
Gillicuddy. Sums of 1'.0.000 and $19,-
000 *aid to have been paid into the
Imperial Bank at Edmonton to the
credit of Mr. Oliver figure in the mat-
ter. and the insinuation is that these
sums were corruptly received in con-
nection with a land grant to the Can-
adian Northern Railway. Mr. M-Gi(-
licuddy wrote the Premier,Sir Wilfrid
Laurier, March 'lard last. stating his
belief that Mr. Oliver was "a grafter
and a boodle.' and offering to submit
the evidence to Sir Wilfrid. The bit-
ter gave Mr. McGillicuddy several
interviews and finally- told him that
be (the Premier) was not shaken in his
belief in the honesty of his colleague
and that he would stand by him. Mr.
McGillicuddy- subsequently, it appear:.,
put his case in the hands of The Tor-
onto Telegram. The mutter has been
taken up in Parliament, and Mr.
Oliver bas expressed his desire for the
fullest investigation ot the circum-
stances.

DRESS GOODS and SATEENS DAMAGED BY WATER
Last Monday night we had an accident to our steam heating plant. The
pipes and radiators became filled with water which overflowed in two places,
damaging the Plain Sateens, Fancy Art Sateens, Cretons and a few Dress
Goods. The damage in all cases is by water only and not to any great ex-
tent. We cannot sell them now as perfect goods, so want to get them out of
the way at once. We have taken all the Dress Goods, Cretons and Sateens
that were at all damaged and will put them on sale Saturday morning at
prices that should sell them in an hour or two.
The damage will in no (ase interfere with the wear and we will sell you
the goods cheap enough to make it worth while helping us to g'et them out
of the way at once.
