Many of the people of (ioderieh have already contributed to the fund for the relief of the terrible destitu- tion in China. but the need is still very great. and the call .ia urgent. "He gives twice who gives quickly." China Famine Rebef Committee. Toronto, March 30, 1911. DEAR Mn. EDITOR, --We are writ- ing the editors of our Dominion ask- ing their co operation in securing help for the famine stricken Province of Anhui and Kiangsu in China. where nearly three million people are desti- tute and perishing. The conditions there are appalling. The harvest was all destroyed by the terrible flood, and no food can be bad from the soil until June or later. Many villages were entirely swept away and the people left homeless and in dire dutrese. Multitudes gather to- gether in great camps : those who are .trongenough wander over the hills, pulling up roots of weeds for fuel in cooking the pittance of rice they may receive bow the relief agencies. The suffering is terrible. Thousands of tottering habits, hays an0 girls clad in rags -if clad at all-areabwt every- where ; old men and women bobble about leaning on sticks for support, or lie by the wayside, their eyes staring up in mute appeal. Many thousands have perished, and it is estimated that over a million will die unless help is IMMEDIATELY sent The Chinese Consul -General at Ottawa writer that the distress is in- describable. The honorary secretary of the distributing committee in Shanghai cables that the famine area is larger than at Hast believed. Bishop White. of Honour, cables an urgent appeal for help. The one hundred thousand dollars asked from Canada to help meet this awful situation should be easily and immediately secured. ONE DOLLAR ANI) FiFTY CENTS WiLL SAVE A HUMAN LIFE.
