Musical people ere taking an inter-
est in the appearance of the Sheffield

Stainer's Crucifixion.
The choir of Knox church will give
stainer's 2•(Ypuciflzion" on the evening
„f Good Friday, April 14th. The
choir hes been for Bowe time studying'
this beautiful music and will no doubt
give it • rendering worthy of the
splendid reputation of Knox church
choir. The conductor. Mr. Hunter.

The taking of the census in West
Huron will be tinder the cparge of

For nears Factory Suffers Severely
Thursday Night
FRIDAY MORRINOO, April 7th.
A great portion of the Kensington
Furniture Co.'s factory was destroyed
by fire lest night. The alarm was
sounded shortly after 930 o'clock, and
when the fire brigade reached t e
scene the large frame huilling next to
the G. T. R. was already doomed, the
flames having gained such beedw•y.
This portion t.f the factory was occu-
pied by the offices. packing, shipping
end stow -moms. and wee separated
by • firewall from the machine rooms,
which were saved. The Are spread to
the east, however. into the new brick
building, • considerable part of which,
containing the finishing rooms, wee
.ieotroyed. The engine and holler
rooms, the kiln and, as before stated.
the machine moms were saved. The
nearby lumber piles, belonging le the
Company and to James Dean. were
saved only by room of their being
soaked wit h the rain. The firemen
worked all night to quench the flames

Good Friday. April 14th, will be a
gala day among the 1. O. O. F.

Change of Date.
The annual excursion to the Agri-
cult/rd College at Guelph, under the
auspices of the West Huron Farineiti
Institute, will be held on Friday. June
9th. The 10th of June was the date
formerly announced. hut so many ex-
cureione to the College were already
fixed for that date that proper eccom-
mcxlatioa could not tie secured. rind
the West Huron excursion bas there-
for- been placed one day ahead. the
fare will be $1.225 for the round trip as
in previous years. There will tie a
special train leaving Goderich via C.
P. R , and excursionists may return
by the regular train leaving Guelph at
Sean p m., or they may return the fol-
lowing day.

lished by F. J. Wickwire, formerly of
The Exeter Times. The office is lo-

An Old Lady's Remarkable Achieve-
ment.
Mrs. Wm. Green, one 01 the oldest
resideib ret Goderich, has just per-
formed a noteworthy teat in the sew-
ing line, by making three patchwork
quilts inside nt three months. The
last quilt, which was composed of
over WOO piece(, was started and com-
pleted in lane than one month. and is
as tine a piece of handiwork au( might
he seen in a long time. l'orrsideripg
the lady s age. eighty-eight years, it is
all for more remarkable, end we hope
she will live many more years and
continue to do more of this tine handi-
work. Mr. Green is tbe mother of
Mrs. J. P. Brown and an aunt of Harry
Morris, loth well-known re+idents of
our town.
Public School Board.
At the regular meeting of the public
school hoard on Monday evening. the
chairman of the board reported the re-
sult of the meeting with the commit-
tee of the town council. et which it
was agreed by the council to provide
the funds for the balance of the school
building account. The board is to
turn over the proceed. of the sale of
the Nelson street school site, end deed
to the town the flve acres south of
Victoria school. The offer of M. E.
Kuntz to take the Nelson street site at
$9(X) was accepted, providing the town
couneil make the lot 104 feet in width
a( asked by Sr. Kuntz. The offer of
Mr. Andrews of $200 for the two lots in
St- David's ward wee accepted. The
finance committee reported an esti-
mated expenditure for 1911 of $11.000
for ordinary school purposes and it
was agreed that the town council be
asked for this amount It was do•
coded to increa.e the insurance on Vic -
torte ewbal to $20,1eX) and the matter
was lett in the hands of the ecbool
managing committee. The building
committee war authorized to procure
the quantity of grass seed required.

A very tasteful window display, sug-
gestive of the Faster season. is made
at Wilmer Smith'. Art Store, East
street. The pprominent features are a
profusion of Exeter lilies and a num-
ber of appropriate pictures. The win-
dow is meet artistically arranged and
the effect is very pretty.
'The County Fair," to be played at
Victoria Opera House on April 21st
by the Menesetung Canoe Club. prom-
ises to be a popular event. The plot is
not a heavy one. hut the play gives
opportunity for many mirt6-pro-
voking scenes and the interest will be
sustained front start to finish. Keep
the evening of April 21st free from
other engagements.
The acrd Regiment hand is practis-
ing hard in preparation for the
reason which will open in a few
weeks. The men are enthusiastic in
their praises of the efforts of Band-
master Hunter, and moat satisfactory
progress is being made in mastering
the new music. After the practice on
Tuesday evening last the men were
entertained at luncheon by dame of
the ladies—an act of thontghtfulneas
that was properly appreciated.
The disposition of the mummer hotel
for the coming season has not yet been
Nettled, The town council seem( to
he reluctant to accept Mr. Lee's offer
for the purchase of the hotel, and we
miderttand there is now a pmpoeition
for the renewal of the lease. What-
ever is to be done should he done
quickly, as some time will be required
for the making of repairs and for the
advertising of the hotel for tbe reason.
Mr. Lee's management of the hotel
has been capable, and we believe the
townspeople will he well satisfied if it
remains in his hands.
