Many Suggestions ot Practical Value
in Carrying on the Work of the
Farm - Women's Institute Argo
Reor.s.nted-A Refererke to the
Tariff.
Auburn. Fe's= -Tbough the atten-
dance of farmers was not as large as it
should have been. -.the supplementary
meeting* of the Farmers' Institute
bald iu tbe Foresees' He11 bene on
Saturday proved exceptionally inter-
esting and profitable to those who
were there. The addresses given by
the speakers were toll of utue-saving
and profit-making 'suggestions, gained
(tow a scientific study of and practical
experience with problems relating to
farm life.
The afternoon meeting was called to
order about 2 3) by President Mal -
lough, wbo gave a brief outlioe of the
work of the Institute, in wbich he em-
phasised the educatiooal value of
meetings such as these. He then
called upoll Past -president Alums, of
Goderich, for a few remarks. Though
now a retired farmer. Mr. Ma ri..hid
that he was still deeply intere.ud in
farm lite and wished to see the fann-
er get the very bighe.t prices for
his produce. ile was pleased to see
that the farmers were now becoming
more independent and boped that
their cuodluons would c..rntioue to im-
prove. He advocated the forming of
co operative societies to raise the qual-
ity of our fruit.
The next speaker was Robert Mur-

At the suggtes1ion of Mesar.. Lockhart
and Bailie. Mr. Murphy spoke on
"The Selection and Feeding of Beef
Cattle." At the outset Mr. Murphy
empbiwized the necessity of buying
rigor in order to make the feeding of
beef rattle a paying investment. On
ac"aunt of the high price of cattle last
fall, he expects that the returns for
next spring will be lees than in former
years. Soule indications of high
prices for next spring, however. are :-
1. At the present time, a large
number are devoting their attention
to dairying.
2. The population of Ont -trio is in-
rt•eaging faster than the production of
beef.
3. As the wealthy class in the citt7s is
enlarging. thew is an increasing de-
mand for the best heef.
To those who breed their uwo, Mr.
Murphy would say, "The hest is none
