• A SCRAP BOOK,
Ts Se Useful It Must- Be Arrsngsd
With System.
'The strap book habit, provided it is
.ani carried tis excess, is invaluable.
For reference nothing takes lie place,
aa it has an advantage over • other
compilations of information that it is
usually formed along lines that pecul-
ierly appeal to the owner.
A scrap. book to be useful must be
,arranged with system. A •bodge-podge
-of-information defeats the purpose of
the book. It is well to have smaller
books than are usually used both be-
cause a scrap book is more valuable
if it treats of but one class of subjects.
Be careful in selecting a scrap book
that it opens nut flat and is well
bound. It is a mistake to get one
with a flimsy cover or poor paper that
crinkles • with pasting. Many books
ready mucilages] can now be bought.,
but these are more expensive than
ordinary kinds and sometimes (ails to
stick.
A good photographer's paste is the
best medium; mucilage is aUcky And
not lastllg and flour paste sours.
Have a broad brush to apply the
paste and put it on 'thinly enough
nut to get lumpy.
There will be less danger of peges
sticking together if, after a clipping
in panted in, s thick paper or piece of
muslin Is put over it and pressed with
a moderately hot _ iron.. This makes
the pages look neater and flatter.
Even:' where a book is devoted to
one clime of snbje(:ts the clippings
should be grouped in subdivisions.
and an index should be placed in the
front of the book. If the scrap book
in not alph*beted artapaged, it should
be deme by hand. The alphsbeting
may be omitted, but the peeing never.
