Fire at Hamlink's Evaporator. On Saturday afternoon the operat- ing building of D. F. Hanilink's evap- orator on Biuce street was destto ed by fire. The storehouse and office building. which is of cement, was practically uninjured. though, ,being directly to the north of the building which was burned and the wind being from the south. the roof was in con- stant danger of taking fire, so mucks° that the main efforts of the firemen were directed to keeping the roof of the storehouse drenched. As the operating building was a frame one the fire got a qieid hold of the building 1n a very short time, and the girl operatives, of whom there were over twenty, had little more than time to get out, many of them losing their errata. The building had a metal sid- ing, but, as the fire started inside, this served merely es an obstruction to the firemen In getting water on the fire. Eight power machines used in peeling the fruit were in the building and a quantity of apples also was rend- ered tiseleas. Mr. flamlink places hi. loss at about $3,000, against which iam Sutherland.
