A Head-on tollision.
On Monday afternoon a head-on
collision occurred in the C. P. It.
yards just where the tracks peas
through the salt block of the Western
Canada Flour Mills Co. The incom-
ing express with engine 4421 and the
heavy *hunting engine i() were both
on the stain line and, owing to a mi/-
underetanding of the signals, they
ran into each other. The incoming
express was in charge of Engineer
McInerney and the shunting engine
in charge of Engineer Austin. 1'he
express tied stopped farther up in the
yard and the engineer on the, shunt-
ing engine understood be was tat run
to the switch and back down It to let
the express pass. Both engines were
moving ata slow rate, othere'll* the
Oauutge would have been much
greater. As it is both the engines
have to lament to Toronto for repairs,
the pilots being broken off and other
damages sustained. Engine 821 went
down for repairs on Tuesday Morning
and engine Kill was sent down the
following day. It was about 12:30 on
Monday vrhen the accident occurred
and it took practically all afternoon
to get the engin.•,, clear of each other.
The heavier engine partially Qrnunted
the other, the front wheels of the en-
gine being lifted from the tracks
slightly,K and owing to the engines not
bring able to get. enough e2Ack to beck
sway from each other it took eon
siderahle work with jacket to get them

the dnmsge to the engines, the beerle
