The regular meeting of the town
council was held on I''ridoiy everting
last, with all the member' in attend-
ance.
One matter that occupied some time
in discussion was what to do with
the buildings which are iu the wav of
building the propotred C. P. R. freight
sheds. Acting Clerk Mitchell re-
ported having notified Robert Clark
and William Walker tie'. sw siting

Board of Trade, already reported in
these columns. Regarding the euut-
mer hotel matter, the Mayor raid he
had written to Mr. Obcrne, of the C.
P. R., since returning, and Mr.
Oborne'. reply was to the effect That
the C. P. It. would not touch it.
A communication from the Guelph
& (ioderi -h Railway Company asked
for the payment of the balance of 1 h

Goderich to buy the right of way in
this town. Councillor Sallow.. asked
if it was not a fact that whatever was

for the right of way was to be re-
turned to the tower, and Deputy
Reeve Reid answered, "Yes, and the

Exhibition and the usual repairs to

A circular soliciting the town's be-
coming a member of the Union of
Canadian Municipalities was Bent to

nings expressing his preference for
joining the Ontario Union to joining
a Dominion union.
A letter from the Ontario Municipal
Association for the Betterment of
Coneumptivee asked for the appoint-
ment of delegates to wait on the
Government with reference to secur-
ing a grant, and for the signing of a
resolution. Reeve Gallow explained
that the same matter had come up at
the county council and said that he
was a member of a committee ape
pointed to wait on the Government.

the east, one in the west and one in

The fire committee reported: Re
placing of more eydrants near the
harbor, that the chairman, Mr. Muu-
nings. met the water and light corn•

the territory referred to. choose posi-
tion of hydrants, and make estimate
of coot. The commit tee recommended
that a copy otthe Ore bylaw be given
each fireman and a copy posted up in
the firemen's room, and that the fire-
men be esk.d to reconsider their ap-
pointment of a fire warden on account
of the lung incumbency of the present
officer.
The report was adopted with theex-

Leader, which was then in it sixth
year, and the pages ate email, con-
