Convicted of Arson.
Joseph Sampson, the man charged
with setting fire to the house and
barn of William Wickert. of Stephen
t"nship, was convicted before the
County judge on Tuesday last and a
two weeks' remand was made for sen-
tence.
Captain Mciaonald Weds.
Captain Angus Mahmald of the tug

Tweedie. The ceremony took place
at high noon on Saturday at the resi-

reached between the C. P. R. and the
Hawleys with reference to the prop-
erty expropriated by the company at
the harbor. The award ot the board of
arbitration some time ago was for
$30,001) for the property wanted by
the C. P. R. and iiii appeal was made
from this, bid now the matter has
en settled by the comp iny'n agree
to purchase all the Hawley prop -
arty at the harbor for 850,000. E ich

Board of Trade.
A rather informal meeting of the
council of the Board of Tralleiva
held last evening, with seven or eight
members in attendance. The ques-
tion of rending a deputation to Ot-
tawa In reference to harbor matters
WAS under dismission, and it was de.
cided to approve of the sending of a
small deputation, including perhaps
one delegate from the B wird of Trade
and me• from the town counoil, with
representatives of the firms especially
interested in the Improvement of the
harbor. The matter will probably be
dealt with at the meeting of the town
council tomorrow evening.
Women's Institute Supper.
Last Thursday afternoon the mem-
bers of the Goderich branch of the
Women's lostitete held their monthly
meeting at the home of Mrs. War-
nock. The attendance was large and
a good program had been prepared.

Death of William Tighe.
The death took place yesterday of
William Tighe, Britannia road, at the
age of sixty-seven years. Poe about
a year he bad been suffering' with an
internal complaint and his sister. PIM
Keating, of Bay City, Mich., has been
here for some months attending him.
Mr. Tighe was formerly a farmer in
Hullett township, bet for the past.
twenty years had been living retired

(Menai magistrate yesterday and was
remanded until Friday and after they
get through with him at Guelph there
are a number of charges awaiting him

in Guelph on Tuesday and Wednee-
day in connection with the matter.
